Chapter 48

"So that's how it happened!" Naruto said.

"How what happened?" you asked.

"Did you not hear him (y/n)?" Sakura asked "He just told you what happened in the fight with Itachi" she looked at you confused.

"Oh sorry, I guess I zoned out there for a moment. Can you tell me again?" you shook your head trying to clear out the haze you felt.

"Basically it wasn't him somehow, it looked like him, sounded like him, and even had his abilities but it wasn't him" Sakura exclaimed.

"I'm not even sure myself what it was but when Naruto hit him with the rasengan his appearance changed" Kakashi added trying to clear your confusion.

"That must be why he disappeared so suddenly. He was standing directly in front of me and he just faded away, said he had to go." You explained.

"The fact he could manage all that at once is annoyingly impressive, guess I should've expected that." Kakashi said shaking his head.

"Impressive indeed" you added, Kakashi turned his head toward you trying to read your expression. He caught your hand and stopped walking, his expression filled with worry.

"What else did he make you see?" Kakashi asked.

"Nothing, it was just darkness and him, I don't think he had enough chakra to do the dreams like he had before. It was also like I couldn't remember things, like my memory was slowly disappearing." You shrugged off his question.

"Do you plan to go?" he asked under his breath "to him?".

"No, not in the way you are thinking, I chose you and you need to remember that" you said gently placing your hand on his cheek. "I'm not going to lie to you though, I want him to meet his son, even if its only once." You explained.

"It will never be safe to do that though, he kidnapped you before, what's stopping him from taking both of you?" he questioned.

"You." you said simply. "I would fight to the death for you and I know you would do the same, so I never feel more safe than when I'm with you. Don't worry yourself with all of this now though, he is getting sicker by the day so it might not even happen." You said with a shrug, inside you knew it would happen sooner than he was ready for because you had already started devising a plan.

"We better catch up to the rest of the team, this mission isn't over yet" you turned to walk away when he grabbed you and pulled you into his chest.

"I know you think that them meeting is something that needs to be done but I'm asking you not to. I've lost everyone I ever loved and that's why I remained single for so long. Something about you though made it impossible to stay away, and I know if I lost you I wouldn't survive it. I love the boys but you are my entire world at this point, so don't do anything reckless, please." He pleaded, squeezing you tightly.

"I"

"KAKASHI SENSEI!" Naruto called out catching both of your attentions. "WE FOUND GAI SENSEI."

"Let's go" you said pulling back from Kakashi.

"I actually need you to go back to the sand village and send a message to the Hokage" he said, he wouldn't meet your eyes.

"I need to be with my team though, we can find another way to send the message." You looked at him confused.

"No I need you to go, tell her what's happened and then stay there to wait for a response" he commanded still not willing to meet your eyes.

"Your lying, let me fight beside you, I can help" you urged.

"No you cant, just listen and go" he snapped, you stepped back shocked.

"Fine" you turned and sprinted in the direction of the sand village, not daring to look back knowing he would see the annoyed tears streaming down your face.

It wasn't long before you reached the sand Village, you knew the excuse of sending a message to Tsunade was just that, an excuse. Instead of wasting your time you decided to go find Kankuro, you had become friends during the exams. You had to ask several people until someone could tell you where he was, once you knew you hurried to the infirmary. Stepping in you found him bandaged and laying on a hospital bed, he looked pale and rather disheveled.

"(y/n)?" he asked sitting up.

"Holy crap, who would've known your actually handsome under all that pace paint" you joked flashing him a smile.

"Oh shut up and come closer" he gave a small chuckle and gripped his side in pain.

"You look terrible" you said sitting on the edge of his bed.

"Didn't you just call me handsome two seconds ago?" he said shaking his head playfully.

"Yea but up close is a different story, who got the better of you?" you pushed the hair out of his face that stuck to his sweating skin.

"Seems I'm not the only puppet user around here, and unfortunately he is much better than me" you could hear the disappointment in his voice "They took Gaara and I couldn't stop them" he said.

"You were brave enough to try, that's more than some can say when it comes to the Akatsuki. They are more powerful than most of you know and I fear they are only getting started." You sighed deeply thinking of the possible destruction they would cause.

"You sound like you know them personally" he said looking at you with questioning eyes.

"Well I have loved one of them since childhood and I've met three or four of the others, their abilities are unlike anything I've seen." You said with a shrug.

"Loved one of them?" he asked, you froze realizing what you had just let slip.

"That was a long time ago" you said waving it off.

"No you said have loved, not had loved." He squinted his eyes at you watching your reaction.

"You really need to stop being such a good listener, and I need to learn to shut my big mouth" you said with a chuckle "Lets keep this conversation between us, okay?" you asked.

"I will but under one condition" he said.

"Okay what's the one condition?" you asked.

"Get dinner with me sometime" he stated.

"That's a really sweet offer, but i have two kids now and live with Kakashi so I don't think he would take kindly to us going to dinner" you said with a laugh.

"Guess a lot can happen in a few years" he said chuckling and awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck.

"How about instead I just stay here and we can talk for awhile until you feel better? I can tell you about my amazing fights against the Akatsuki" you wiggled your eyebrows funnily.

"Okay that sounds fair, I want to know about the one you love too. Seems we have a few years worth of stories to tell" he said.

"Okay well I'll start with how I got kidnapped and taken to their secret hideout" your words immediately caught his attention.

"How are you even still alive?" he questioned.

"Because I'm amazing, now hush so I can tell you the story" you joked covering his mouth with your hand. 

*Gotta admit im not happy with this chapter, ive committed myself to not writing the exact scenes from the show but then i get stuck sometimes on how to write around it. I have good ideas for future chapters just need to get past this part that i for some reason decided to write about lol. Thanks for reading, and im really excited about the bonus chapter, will have alot of fluff and some much needed explanations
