soulmates were complicated. the day you turn fourteen, song lyrics get permanently tattooed on your skin and is there for the rest of your life.

many people had the same favourite songs, yes, but the person's who's lyrics came directly after or before yours in the song was your soulmate.

luke was taught at a young age about soulmates. for example, he knew that people didn't get to choose their song and he found it funny that michael's left shoulder blade had "twinkle, twinkle little star..." written upon it.

luke also knew scary and sad things about soulmates.

when your soulmate dies, the ink stays etched in your skin, but he's heard that the song constantly plays in your head. it makes you hate the song and its makes you want to go crazy, and some people do go crazy. not only the fact that having a song constantly playing in your head is annoying, but it's a song that reminded the person of someone they lost.

some people dont have soulmates and thats also sad. by the time you turn eighteen and you still dont have your tattoo, it means you dont have anyone to love.

this is calum's case.

luke felt bad for calum. he didnt want his friend to be lonely. stupid fucking people made a stupid fucking law that stated, "if a person does not have a soulmate tattoo, said person does not have the right to be in love."

in other words, it was illegal for a person to fall in love if you did not have a soulmate tattoo because it could "mess up the system" or some shit. but then calum met ashton. ashton was one of the unlucky people who were born without the ink on his skin and would never have it. he was soulmate-less. calum is now ashton's best friend and they're never seperated. luke was happy about that.

see, luke had this small obsession with the song cemetery drive by my chemical romance (he also had a man crush on mikey way).

he was constantly singing, "this night, walk the dead
in a solitary style and crash the cemetery gates
in the dress your husband hates..."

he posted a cover of the song, the video being his most viewed and yeah, he really fucking loved this song.

and at the break of dawn, on his fourteenth birthday, the lyrics from that exact song were placed upon his collarbone.

"i miss you, i miss you so far..."

his smile was brighter than ever that day because, holy shit, he had a soulmate and holy shit, they had the same favourite song as him and holy shit.

luke was eighteen now. it had been four years - yet he has still hadn't met his soulmate.

luke laid upon michael's bed, calum and ashton joined him as well as michael,

"how will i know when i meet her?" luke asked.

"you'll know lukey, you just have to trust yourself and be patient." michael smiled timidly at his friend.

luke left it at that. he would let fate lead the way.

and when luke decided what he wanted to do with his life, he left home to pursue his music career. he went to LA and was hoping for his big break to happen.
