It is still so shocking. I can't stop thinking about the news I had heard just several hours before. I still don't know why I have to stay away from her. It's not like she's going to murder me. I've been around her for two years and she hasn't caused any harm for me.

We were walking on the beach. The afternoon sky was beautiful. For once, it wasn't all dark and cloudy. It was still cold, but today, you could see the sky. It was a beautiful orangey pinky colour. The others were having a conversation that I didn't partake in or listen to that much. I was fazed by what I had been told, and my head was messed with thoughts.

"Maddy," that Irish accent said to me, snapping my attention to his, "sit."

I followed his instructions and sat on the sand as the others kept on walking.

"What's up?" I asked him, not being really sure on why we weren't with the others.

"Is everything okay?" he asked with concern in his voice.

"Yeah, everything's fine."

"You can fool the others, but you can't fool me. You don't have to tell me, but I'm always here if you want to talk about it."

Aw. Such a sweet fella.

"Thanks," was all I said, turning my head to look at him and giving him a small smile. His eyes looked into mine, and I could've sworn I was staring at his for at least ten seconds before pulling away.

I watched the waves, lightly crashing on the shore, the water licking the sand.

After a short pause, he sparked up a conversation again about this weeks plans.

It was getting a bit dark but we were still sitting on the beach, just talking, enjoying each other's company.

"You must be freezing," he stated as he looked at me. I was hugging my knees to keep warm, but that didn't really help. He zipped off his jacket and placed it around my shoulders.

"Thanks," I said, as I started wrapping the jacket around my body better. It was so warm, and it smelt so good. I turned my head to look at him, to find him already looking back at me. His eyes were electrifying and I couldn't pull away. Before I knew it, he started leaning in closer. My heart was beating a thousand times a second and my hands started breaking out into sweats. I closed my eyes and felt his soft, warm lips against mine. I couldn't pull away. I was like a magnet, and I was attracted to him. The kiss sent a million butterflies in my stomach. It lingered for a few seconds before we both pulled away.

What the hell just happened.

"I-I'm sorry..." he stuttered, "I don't know why I did that."

So he kissed me. And said he didn't mean it. I had just fallen myself into a trap. I like him, he kissed me, and he didn't mean it. What was I suppose to say back?!

"I-It's okay..." I trailed off.

I am so confused. It was now just back to the start again; awkward.

We were silent. Not a single word was said, and I couldn't deal with it.

"I think we should go back now," I said, interrupting his thoughts.

"Okay."

"Oooooh, Maddy's wearing Niall's jacket!" Louis hollered as soon as he saw us walk in.

I gave Louis an annoyed look as I slid the jacket off and handed it to Niall without looking at him in the eye.

"She was cold," I heard Niall explain in almost a flat tone as I proceeded to go upstairs.

"Hm."

Dinner was awkward. Niall and I didn't spare each other a glance, and we kept our heads down, looking at the plate of roast in front of us. I think the others could feel the tension between us, including my parents, but they just ignored it, sparking up a new subject every now and then. We talked when it was necessary, replying with one word answers, hoping there would be no follow up questions.

Dinner was then followed by a movie. I said I was tired and that I 'had stuff to do,' but they forced me to watch the movie with them. I didn't even pay attention to the movie. I just sat there, drowning myself in my thoughts. First about Katie, and then Niall. What next?

"I think I'll go to bed," I explained to Harry who was in his pajamas in the gaming room. Thankfully, it was Niall's turn in the shower.

"Why? Are you okay?" he asked with sincerity. Louis and Liam shot their gazes to me, waiting for my reply.

"I've got a headache," I lied.

"Do you want me to get you some painkillers?" Liam asked.

"No, it's alright. I just need some sleep, but thank you anyway." I gave them a smile before spinning on my heel and walking to my room.

I closed the door behind me and dimmed the lights. I lifted the covers and slipped into bed. I put my earphones in, blocking anything and everyone around me, entering my own world, and attempted to sleep.

After almost two hours, I was still wide awake. I tossed and turned, but too much was on my mind. Katie being a psycho and Niall. Why did he do it if he didn't mean it? He brought my hopes up, and now, they're crushed.

There was a quiet knock on my door, and without my permission, they came in.

"Maddy?" my sisters voice asked as she walked in closing the door behind her.

I didn't respond, and she walked over to my bed sitting on the edge of it.

"Are you alright?" she asked again.

No, I am not alright. Today, I found out that my best friend is a psycho and that I have to stay away from her, and the boy I like kissed me for no reason.

"Yeah," I lied through my teeth.

"No, you're not."

I kept my gaze on the pillow next to me. I didn't know how to reply.

"Tell me," she said, her voice had more emphasis.

I knew she wouldn't leave without me giving some sort of an answer. I'll tell her what happened this morning.

I sat up from my sleeping position and looked her right in the eye, "Katie is psycho," I blurted out.

There was a short pause before she spoke again.

"Huh?" she asked with a puzzled facial expression that I almost laughed at.

"She's an actual psycho. Like, messed in the head. Zayn's distant family friends with her and he told me," I explained.

It took her a while to process this in her head.

"So what are you going to do?"

"Zayn said that I have to stay away from her, because she could be dangerous."

"That's... screwed up."

"Yeah."

I was so thankful she didn't ask about Niall and I. I'm pretty sure it was quite obvious something was up, but I didn't intend to fill her in on that one.

"Are you sure you don't want to join us? It's not as fun without you," she asked as I slid back under the covers.

"Nah. I think I'm going to get some rest," I replied back to her with a half smile.

"Okay, well, we'll see you tomorrow then. Night Maddy."

"Night."
