Monday
Morning was awkward. Brittany deliberately took an extremely long shower while mine was short because she barged in first and I ended up in the biggest rush. I had to do my make up in the closet mirror and I was near close to being late to my first lecture. Very few words were spoken between us.
I walked in and sat down on the closest empty seat since I got there just in time. I was slightly out of breath from running and the girl next to me smiled at me as I fixed my hair slightly and got my notebook ready.
"Slept in?" she asked. I turned to face her. She had brown eyes rimmed by long black lashes and straight brown hair; a shade slightly darker than mine.
"Uh.. Something like that," I replied.
"I'm Jenny," she introduced as she offered a handshake.
"Maddy," I told her as I shook her hand.
"You look rather familiar," she said while squinting her eyes, as if it would give her a better look at me.
"Niall?"
"Ah."
Our conversation was short, as we were interrupted by the bald man at the front in a black suit at the podium. He tapped on the microphone several times creating a bass noice that came out of the speakers.
"Good morning students," he welcomed, and it felt like school all over again.

At the end of the lecture, Jenny insisted I have lunch with her and her friends, which I accepted. I walked with her and her other friend Hazel who also attended the same lecture. We walked over to the dining hall that was starting to fill up. I felt anxious ever since I woke up and I wasn't in the mood to eat but I went anyway.
"So where did you graduate from?" Jenny asked.
"St. Augustines."
"Oh yeah, I have a few old friends who went there too."
She then brought her paper cup of coffee to her lips and took a gulp at it but quickly put it back down when the last person I wanted sitting here started to approach us. I tilted my head slightly and put my hand on the side of my face so that hopefully she couldn't see me, even though I knew it wasn't going to work. Worth a shot.
"Brittany has a close friend who goes to St. Augustines," Jenny said to me when she noticed Brittany coming towards us. "Maybe you know her friend."
"What friend?" Brittany asked as she joined into the conversation and plonked her books down. She sat directly opposite me and at this point, she was probably burning a hole in the side of my head. "I have no friend that goes to St. Augustines," she denied.
"Yes, you do. What's her name again?"
"Who's that hiding behind her hand?" Brittany asked avoiding Jenny. The tone of her voice changed and she knew it was me.
"This is Maddy. Maddy meet Brittany."
"Show your face," Brittany told me and she reached across the table and swiped my hand away from my cheek making me feel exposed. "Oh, Jesus Christ. You?"
I gave her a sarcastic smile.
"Wait, do you guys know each other?" Hazel questioned, furrowing her brows.
"Nope," I snapped.
"Oh, right then."
Then there was a pause between us and the only noise audible were other people talking and forks and knives clanging against each other.
