Maddy's POV
I gradually lifted my eyelids and squinted to adjust to the brightness of the winter morning. I had fallen into a deep sleep last night because I stayed up talking to Alice into the early hours of this morning. I rolled over to my side and looked at my digital clock. 10:07. Even though I only slept for just over eight hours, I felt a bubble of excitement inside me. Yeah, it's my birthday and I guess I'm excited for what today has to offer, even though we're doing nothing special. Ever since the incident, I had never really been the centre of attention. The only attention I got was from the media about the tragic event, but apart from that, I was just hiding in my own shadow. Actually, in Alice's shadow and now I guess Niall's shadow. I checked my phone and found a text from Niall.
Happy birthday beautiful <3
I smiled at this as I typed my reply.
Can't wait to see you <3
I slowly lifted the sheets up and the cold air surrounded me. We always have the heating on, but it's never as warm as my bed. My toes touched onto the cold flooring and I made my way to the door. As my hand grabbed onto the freezing silver handle, I found a note on my door.
"Knock three times and go back into your bed! x" it read. I smiled a little at the mystery of this. I followed the instructions and knocked on my door three times. I then proceeded back to my warm bed, which was now not as warm. As I fixed the duvet around me, three knocks sounded on my door followed by my door swinging open.
"Happy birthday!" my family that was all dressed up greeted as they walked in. My sister was standing in the middle with a huge plate if breakfast and a glass of orange juice on a tray.
"Breakfast in bed for the birthday girl," my sister stated as she placed the tray on my lap.
"Happy birthday, Maddy," my mum said as she walked over to my bed and kissed me on the cheek.
"My little princess is growing up," my dad joined in, in a sarcastic sad tone as he pressed a kiss on my forehead.
"I'll always be your little princess," I replied with a slight eye roll and smile.
"Well, we'll leave you to have your breakfast," my mum concluded with a smile. I looked down at my rather large plate of breakfast and back at the door where Alice was about to leave.
"Wait, Alice," I called.
"Mhm?"
"Have some with me. I can't have this much."
"Don't mind if I do," she chirped. "I'll just go get a fork and knife."
I nodded at her an smiled before she left my room. I took in a small breath and laid my eyes on the large plate of breakfast on my lap. Bacon, scrambled eggs, sausages and two slices of French toast topped with raspberries and a small drizzle of maple syrup with a tall glass of orange juice. My stomach gurgled quietly as I breathed in the smell of the food. I turned my head and Alice walked in with a small plate, knife and fork in hand.
"Sit," I instructed her as I gestured to the space in front of me. She followed my instructions and sat on my bed.
"That looks so good," she said as she looked at the food.
"Eat whatever you want," I told her as I picked up my fork and knife. I forked up a piece of the scrambled egg and placed it into my mouth before swallowing it down.
"So, after you finish eating this, you're going to shower and get changed in normal clothes you're going to come downstairs and meet the boys," she commanded as she held a rash of bacon between her cutlery before placing it onto her plate.
