*Flashback*
"Come on! It'll be fun!" she pleaded.
"I just don't think it's a good idea," I said back with a little hesitation in my voice.
"Everything will be fine. If I have to, I'll drag you to the party."
"But what if we get caught?"
"Stop worrying! I'll just make up something. It'll be fine."
But the truth was, if we got caught, it would not be fine. Our parents would want an explanation. I didn't even want to go. We're both seventeen. I'm underage and I don't plan to start drinking just yet, and especially when Emily would be drinking, I'd need to look after her. I already knew that tonight wasn't going to end well. The strong stench and side effects of alcohol can't be covered up, and knowing Emily, she'd make up a lie to our parents, and it'd be like, "we went out to get dinner but we got lost," or "I'm not drunk. You're drunk for saying I'm drunk."
Our parents decided to leave us alone tonight, while they and my sister went out for dinner. They'd be back in two hours tops, and I knew that we wouldn't make it back in time, especially when Emily's all tipsy.
I ended up giving in, knowing that I'd get dragged there anyway if I said no. I'll just have to keep a close eye on her, but I knew that was going to be hard.
I could already hear the loud thumping of the music being played at the house. Cars were parked outside and Emily's friend said for us to hop out first, while he finds a parking space. We entered the house, packed full of people with alcohol in their hands. And almost instantly, I lost Emily. I proceeded to find somewhere to sit, but that was almost impossible as it was really dark and I was at a strangers house. I sat down on the sofa just looking at the people around me. Some were throwing up, some were yelling at each other, some having no control over their feet and they just collapsed on the floor. I just sat there, by myself, avoiding anyone who wanted to talk to me.
"Have a drink," a guy who looked about in his mid-twenties said as he placed it on the coffee table in front of me.
"Oh, no, I don't -" but before I could finish my sentence he was gone. So, I just left it there. Five minutes later, Emily showed up, her cheeks already flushed a light pink.
"You're not going to drink that are you?" she slurred, "more for me then," she said, grabbing the drink and walking off into the crowd. I had learnt that you should never drink anything someone else gives you. Always get your own drink.
I hopped up from my spot and began to try and find Emily, but there were too many people. I headed upstairs and into the rooms to rudely interrupt young couples having sex or making out with hardly any clothing on, or none at all. I headed downstairs to find her again, but I just couldn't find her.
After a total fifteen minutes of searching inside the house, I discovered that there's a back yard, filled with even more people. I then found her, collapsed on the grass on the side of the house, no one around her. I walked up to her, and she was unconscious.
*End of flashback*
"I just froze, too in shock," I explained to him. He didn't respond, his eyes intent on listening to the story. "I was just hoping it was a nightmare and I'd wake up and everything would be alright, but it wasn't. An ambulance and several police cars showed up, taking my cousin to the hospital and shutting the party down. I called our parents to come to the hospital and it was just so heartbreaking seeing Emily's parents so crushed and broken. So, it turns out that the drink that the guy gave me was spiked. Emily took it, she drank it, and she was only supposed to pass out. But apparently, some drunk dudes thought'd it be fun to murder her. And ever since then, people who recognised me, started judging me. They twisted the truth around saying I was the one who gave her the drink. It was hard, people blaming the incident on me. But I knew the truth, our families knew the truth and they believed me. I moved schools because it was too hard. Word got around and people started avoiding me. Moving schools sort of helped, I got a new start, but there were still a few people who knew, but they kept quiet. The blame was pushed onto me so much that I started to believe it was my fault. The murderers were arrested and the spiker was never determined."
