"Thank you," I said to Alice as she opened the door. I pulled her into a hug and she seemed a bit confused by this.
"What for?"
"The carnival."
"Ohhhh," she said as she laughed a little, "yeah, I'm a genius, and I'm guessing you guys had a good time?"
"Yep," I replied, popping the 'p'.
We walked in and Alice closed the door behind Niall and I. I wriggled my hand out of Niall's, realising that my dad was probably with the boys watching a movie or something since the house seemed pretty dark. Mum was probably at work. She worked late on Wednesday's. Niall rolled my eyes as I did this and I just smiled back.
"Dad knows," my sister stated as she realised my action. My eyes widened a little. Niall was technically the first boyfriend that my parents have met; well, parent, since mum didn't know yet. What would he say? Hopefully I wasn't going to be in for a big lecture or anything.
"How could you tell him?!" I yell whispered.
"We tried to cover for you two, but it was too obvious! He guessed it himself anyway."
"Oh."
Alice then walked off into the lounge room. As she did so, lights started to flicker on. Niall and I followed her, several steps behind. We had dried up and hopefully we didn't look too bad. I walked in and dad and the boys were picking up popcorn that they had dropped and half eaten chip packets and returning them into the kitchen.
"Hey Mads, Niall. Did you guys have a good time?" my dad asked in a bit too casual tone as soon as he noticed our presence. He looked at the big stuffed bear that Niall was hugging and then back to me.
"Yeah," we both replied. The other boys were scattering around and giving us smirks.
"Alright, everyone upstairs," Alice said as if she was rounding up a bunch of toddlers. Ironically, she sort of was. "Leave the father and daughter alone to talk." I almost shot her a death stare.
The one thing I didn't want to do was talk. What were these talks even about? Niall looked at me, giving me a small smile which I returned. He left my side and followed the boys and my sisters upstairs, and I was left alone with my dad.
"Sit," he instructed me. I followed his instruction and sat next to him on the couch.
"So," he started, "how are you?" he asked. I was surprised with what he had just said.
"Er, good," I responded with almost no expression.
"Just good?" I smiled a little at this.
"Great," I replied with a bit more enthusiasm.
"That's good," he responded with a slight smile. There was a short silence before he spoke again. So there's a guy..."
A guy? Does he mean Niall?
"And you like him," he finished.
Yep, Niall.
"I like him a lot," I replied without having to think about it.
"I like him too, and well, if he makes you happy, then I'm happy."
I smiled at what he had said. We'd never really had these talks and I didn't know that he could be that deep.
"I'm happy," I concluded. Hearing myself say those two words was weird, but it felt good. It had been a while since I've said them, but there was no doubt that I wasn't. Tonight just made me forget the world around me, as if none of the bad stuff happened, even though it did. But it felt good to let go even just for a few hours, and it was all thanks to Niall
"Always knew you and Niall had something going on," he teased. I rolled my eyes at his comment. "I like him, I really do. He's a nice kid and I'm really happy for you."
"Thanks dad, and you were right. These few weeks have made me happy; the happiest I've been in a while and it was because of the boys coming over. They were exactly what I needed to help me let go and I slowly am. Thank you, dad."
I pulled him in for a hug which he returned.
"There's no need to thank me. Now, I don't want to keep them waiting for long. You can go join them."
I gave him a smile which he exchanged and I walked upstairs.

"Harry, we should do something on Friday," Liam suggested.
"There's no need, honestly" he replied.
"We have to do something for you," Alice pitched in.
"What's happening Friday?" I asked, confused by this. Harry had a small smile on his face.
"Harry's birthday's on Saturday, but he's flying out to Holmes Chapel Friday night," Niall explained.
"Ohh," was all I said. "We have to do something for you."
"We have the day off as well on Friday," Zayn added in.
"Our little Hazza's growing up," Louis cooed with a slight frown while messing up Harry's curls.
"It's not my actual birthday, so we don't actually have to do anything," Harry said.
"We actually do," Louis replied, putting some emphasis on the word actually just like Harry.
"I'm don't want to go out, because I'll be in a rush to leave. We can just watch some films and sit on the beach or something."
"I need to get you a present," I stated.
"Me too," Alice added in.
"We'll go tomorrow while they're in the studio," I suggested and she smiled at this.
"Sounds good."
"You don't need to get me anything!" he almost yelled.
"But we do."
He just groaned in annoyance at this.
"Hey, Maddy, your birthday's coming up too, isn't it?" Niall asked. I nodded my head in agreement.
"A week or two after Harry's actually," my sister added in.
"We'll have to do something for you as well," Louis pitched in.
"You'll have to invite your friend Katie, we still haven't met her, and we need to apologize to her for that night," Liam suggested.
I hesitated a little when he said her name. I literally didn't know what to say. Zayn, Alice and Niall had widened eyes while they all stared at me. Clearly, she wasn't going to come. She is psycho and her psycho dad has been following us every now and then. I do miss not hanging out with her, but its dangerous. I tried to string some sort of excuse for her not to come but nothing came out of my mouth. Niall squeezed my hand a little.
"We don't have to invite her. She's away on holidays anyway," my sister lied. I looked up at her and gave a small smile.
"That's a shame," Louis spoke up.
"Yeah," Niall said. He looked up at me and gave me a smile which I returned. Even a smile from Niall made things a bit easier.
Harry felt the uneasiness of this topic and decided to change it, thankfully.
"My hair's getting a bit long. I should get Lou to change it up a bit," he spoke, breaking the tense atmosphere. We all looked at him and chuckled a little, lightening up the mood.
Just when you thought that some of the bad was going away, it comes right back and attacks you. I guess he didn't know, he was just being nice. Maybe for me to let go of Katie, I'll need to tell him, but then I can't, because if she finds out, then she'll be going after Zayn. In a way, I don't want to avoid her. I miss being with her, but I guess it's for the better. And then his dad is following us? I just want some answers. I need to talk to her and I honestly don't want to lose her. Even if she is a psycho, she was the one by my side the whole time and I can't afford to lose her.
