To me, it was awkward. I felt as though he was an intruder. Here we were, all sitting down, TV paused, and there he was, standing up by himself in the corner of two couches. All of us, except Louis, stared at him, expecting him to say something, but he was silent.
"Hi guys," he finally said. Hearing his voice again was already comforting.
"Hey Harry," Liam greeted back in a neutral tone.
"What brings you here?" Louis asked in a bit of a rush. His voice scared me slightly. I didn't think he was paying attention to this.
"I'm here to apologise," he replied. He flickered his green eyes to Louis who had his gaze down. Louis then lifted his gaze to Harry and they stared at each other for a second, seeing who was going to speak up.
"Go on," Louis instructed impatiently.
All our gazes were then directed to Harry. We watched as he coughed under his breath and licked half of his upper lip with his tongue before he spoke.
"I'm sorry," he directed at Louis. "For everything."
Another silence, seeing who was going to speak next, but I could tell that Louis wanted more than four words for him to speak up.
"I'm sorry that I didn't listen to you. I was stubborn and I didn't mean to lash out at you and I hate myself for doing that," he spoke really slowly; slower than normal. "I don't know what I was thinking. I almost tore apart our friendship over a girl. She wasn't worth my time or our friendship. I definitely shouldn't have walked out again, or at all, especially on you. Our friendship means so much to me and I want you to know that I regret everything I've ever done to upset you or make you angry. Everything you said about me was right. I am selfish, I am dude, and I'm sorry that I disappointed you. This whole thing has been one massive wake up call and I know that you could never forgive me. I wouldn't even forgive myself. But I truly am sorry."
I looked over to Louis who looked like he was deciding what to say; to forgive him or not.
"Maddy," he called, making me snap my attention to him. "I didn't mean anything I said. I'm sorry if I made you unhappy and I'm sorry that I didn't take what you said seriously. You trusted me and I let you down," he said, and then he turned to everyone and spoke, "I let all of you down, and I'm sorry. I can't regret what I've done anymore than I do." Then he turned his attention back to me and said, "Maddy, I'm sorry."
"It's okay," I replied, my voice faltering a bit. "I forgive you."
It would be awkward if none of us forgive him and he just had to walk back out with his bag. But I forgave him. I miss having him around and it would be nice to finish these few days with him here with us.
He smiled at me and then moved his gaze to Louis. Louis exhaled a sharp breath before he spoke.
"I told you so," he announced proudly, like he had been waiting to say those words his whole life. "The girl?" he questioned.
"Not even worth talking about."
"Look," Louis said, "I'm sorry about everything as well. I shouldn't have been so mad at you, you know? It's your life and I'm not in charge of it, so you should be able to do whatever you want without me telling you what's wrong or right. I-"
"No, Louis, you were right," Harry cut off. "This all happened because of me. This is all my fault and that's why I'm here to apologize. I'm sorry."
"I'm sorry too."
"Bros?"
"Bros."
Louis stood up and walked towards Harry. They gave each other a guy hug and everything was okay again. It was weird seeing two guys be so deep with each other. I know it happens with girls but I didn't think that guys could talk that way as well.
