S4 Part 15 - Holding Out for a Hero

This chapter drove me up a wall lol! I'm not sure why - I think because I had a million different ideas of what I wanted to happen but couldn't do them all 😂 And Overhaul is such a pain in the ass! He's too OP 🤣 I felt like I was getting frustrated with him just while writing because I wanted y/n to be able to fight him but ended up having to wait anyway 🤦‍♀️😂 ughhhhhh but anyway... it's done!! I can move on lol!

Working on y/n's character development is hard too cuz I want her to jump in and react passionately even if it's sketchy 😅 practicing patience here...

"I can't breathe in this thing," you grumbled, pulling at your mask.

"You'll get used to it," Kai said, "I want my wife to be safe from all the filth."

"How thoughtful..."

The two of you walked hand in hand. His thumb traced the outline of your bracelet. Maybe it was because you had the key now that you were more aware of his simple touches, ensuring he still had you tamed.

"Where are we going," you asked.

"I thought it was time we made this official. With the way things are going, it only makes sense to take the next steps."

We're actually going through with this..?

No. No way. You needed more time. Heller would stop him, right? Anything but to become Mrs. Overhaul...

The only other with you was Kurono. You wanted to use up your "kiss of death" on Kai, if you could somehow get through the masks and not get stunned or killed in the process. He was going to be the biggest obstacle in getting out of here.

"I had a thought last night," he said, "At first, I was pretty upset about you and Eri running off, but it gave me an idea that could help the three of us."

You were afraid to ask, "What..."

"I'd like it if you were to be her caretaker; someone she can trust. Make sure she doesn't want to leave. She likes you and my guys are idiots and just scare the girl more."

"You..." you were itching for the key now, "I am not grooming that child for you."

"I'm surprised someone who's been in hero training would immediately reject the idea of making a little girl happy. Maybe I was wrong, you aren't heroic after all -

You're selfish," he sneered.

"Selfish!" You laughed, "You have the ability to save people from dying! You're literally a miracle doctor, or an engineer wizard, and for what! You have everything and still choose to be an asshole-"

"My darling wife has quite the mouth..." his hand tightened around yours, "Do we need to have a loving discussion about your attitude?"

You sighed, and somehow, forced your anger down. If you looked after Eri, at least you would know where he kept her.

"No..." you said.

"Good. Now, this isn't going to be a flashy event. We have the witnesses we need and that's about it. But if you continue to behave, I'll spoil you on the honeymoon."

"Wait, we're... right now?" You hesitated.

"Yes. I think the engagement would just bring about more stress. We can grow our fondness while married. I know I'll be busy, especially when we really begin the manufacturing and distribution, and getting the cult reorganized, but I'll make sure you're taken care of."
