"Congratulations!?"

Monarch was finally able to share in your excitement over your new hero license. Too bad it was after your bizarre marriage proposal to the Yakuza head.

"Thanks," you said, "But can we talk about-"

"Don't fret! I actually got a gift in advance because I knew you would pass! Although, it's probably awkward in theory now... well, anyway. Here's part of your gift!" Monarch was too excited and hastily dug through his jacket pocket for something. It was no easy task as the leather stuck to him like a second layer of skin.

Ochaco and Hornet were holding a quiet conversation of their own, likely about the more pressing matters. You watched Monarch struggling and fighting against his jacket until he pulled out a small black box.

"Oh, gods," your face fell, "Did you buy me the ring already?"

"See, this is the reaction I was worried about," Monarch pouted, his pointed shoe tapped the ground, "Just open it, will you."

You tried not to laugh at his visible distress. The box was soft and snapped open to reveal a very petite diamond necklace in the shape of a butterfly.

"I knew you wouldn't wear what I actually wanted to get you," he said, "So I went as simple as I possibly could while still incorporating myself, obviously."

"I love it," you said, sounding surprised, "I mean it. Are they real diamonds..?"

"Yes! So you know how precious you are!"

"Thank you..." you removed it from the box and hooked it around your neck, "It's too nice. It'll go with my dress tonight."

"You sounded so happy a second ago," he frowned, "Why do you look like you're about to cry?"

"Just whatever Overhaul said is getting to me," you scoffed, "I feel like I've been waiting to get this license so I could finally be useful and not worry everyone. But instead there's more crap for everyone to deal with."

Monarch cupped your face and squeezed your cheeks until they hurt, "It's no surprise that a godchild of mine would be so desirable. But pumpkin, you have become stronger. Even in the short time I've been in your life. Whatever comes our way, we'll handle it. Because we're fabulous like that!"

The corners of your lips pulled upwards, "Speaking of, what exactly are we going to do about your little friend?"

"What did you think of him?"

"... that's a joke. Right."

Hornet gave Monarch a distasteful glance from a distance, "Not everyone is as insane as you, Monarch."

"Of course, I'm kidding!" Monarch said, "I'm almost positive he doesn't have a soul. Plus he's a huge germaphobe - he'd make a terrible lover."

"I don't get why he would want to marry someone he hasn't even met," Ochaco spoke up, "For the sake of... what was it?"

"He just wants control of the cult who's obsessed with me and my dad," you said, "And since they're treating it like Game of Thrones, I'm like the next ruler that either has to be married off because sexist, or killed off because assholes."

"Makes sense?" Ochaco scratched her head.

Monarch hummed in concern, "Overhaul is an ambitious sort... if he weren't so warped and evil then he'd be brilliant!"

"But just to clarify, you aren't gonna make me marry him, right?" You asked.

"We're working on a solution," Hornet interjected, "Since the fire, and Monarch's dirty secrets getting out, Nighteye is trading prison time for Yakuza information."
