Even as a person with wings now, you predicted that you may never get used to the sensation of flying. It didn't help that Hawks enjoyed the occasional free-fall to "rest his wings"... All of Japan probably heard your screaming.

"See the top of that building there?" Hawks said loud enough for you to hear him over the wind.

You dared to open your eyes and peak. Your stomach tightened after seeing just how high you still were.

"Yeah..." you said.

"That's where we're landing," he said, "Wanna try doing it yourself?"

"No! N-No - I - the tallest thing I've flown out of is a tree!"

"This is great practice!"

Hawks, while still flying, started removing your tightly wound limbs. You kicked in protest, but gravity was in his favor and your legs couldn't reach him. He wouldn't just drop you! Would he?

"I'm gonna drop you," he said, "So, get those wings ready."

"What?!"

"C'mon, even Tokoyami got to fly a little. You can do this!" He pulled you completely off of him until he was holding you in the air by your wrists, "I'm not going to let you die, kid."

"Could've fooled me!" You gazed at the world below you and felt your heart stop.

Just pretend you're with Deku, jumping on buildings. This is a normal day, going to school, leaping along...

Fuck!!

Hawks let go of you. You fell forward into a summersault and plummeted towards the earth.

Oh gods. Oh gods. Oh shit. Shit. Shit. Shit.

You could've been screaming but it was hard to tell between your internal cursing and Hawks cheering some words of encouragement. Survival instincts kicked in, and you released your wings.

At first, the wind forced you back so aggressively that you worried your wings would be torn from your body. But after the initial shock, you gained control over the falling part. Now, you needed to aim. You were just making a gradual decent like you had a parachute.

Hawks flew from underneath you, giving you a small gust of wind to help you up. He was smiling, but it wasn't in the mocking way that you hadn't grown fond of. This made him appear genuinely happy for you.

"Here," he shed one of his feathers for you to grab, "I'll reel you in."

It still impressed you that a single feather could carry you through the air. Where did he get this crazy quirk? With your open wings keeping you airborne, Hawks directed you towards the building.

"Now that you know you're safe," he said, "Practice controlling the direction you're going. You'll have to loosen up and tilt your wings."

Your hands were shaking but you did feel braver with his help. It was actually... working. This was going a lot better than you expected - which was a painful death. Turning left and right was easy, but learning how to move forward and back would take some time.

When your feet touched the skyscraper, you collapsed with a loud, dramatic sigh. Cement never felt so good against your face.

"That wasn't so bad, was it!"

A giant shadow cast over your sad, sprawled out body. It was like the vulture coming to clean up the deceased animal. You rotated your face just slightly to look up at Hawks, "You can sense my heart rate, can't you?"
