It was a normal day at the Yorozuya. The sun was shining, birds were chirping, and everyone was very, very bored.
Kagura was lying on Sadaharu, face buried in his fur, occasionally letting out a disheartened groan. Shinpachi was up and about, sweeping the apartment for the third time that day. Gin sat at his desk, finger prodding his prefrontal cortex, and (F/N) was slumped over on the couch, letting out a sigh.
"Isn't there anything to do?" she muttered. "We've been sitting around like this for days now."
"Don't worry about it," Gin said, knuckle disappearing into his nasal cavity. "Things will pick up once it's time for Ketsuno Ana to make her weather report."
"Yeah, for you." (F/N) rolled her eyes, and glanced at the closet. "We could always play a game."
"We don't have any games, anymore," Shinpachi reminded her, pausing by the door. "Last time we played Monopoly, Gin and Kagura stole all the money, piled it on the desk, declared themselves the Monopoly Kingdom, and accused us of being greedy traitors when we tried to get it back. Then you bludgeoned Gin over the head, and threatened Kagura with an impromptu flame thrower. Then the Shinsengumi showed up, Kagura ripped a hole in the wall, and—"
"Okay, okay," (F/N) sighed, "I get it. We tried to kill each other over Monopoly, and burned all the games in a ritual fire. Do you have any better ideas?"
Shinpachi thought for a moment. "Well...we could go see an Otsu concert..."
Gin raised a hand. "Vetoed. Kagura?"
"I'm too bored to think..."
"Really? Is that all you've got?" Gin flicked a booger at her, and she flicked it back. "Honestly, what's the author doing? It's been months since our last big arc. At this rate, the anime's gonna fall into obscurity, and then—"
A knock sounded on the door—soft and faint—and every member of the Yorozuya shot to their feet, suddenly on high alert.
"What do you think that is?" Shinpachi asked. "A job?"
"Food?" Kagura guessed, eyes wide and hopeful.
"No, no," Gin said, shaking his head. "It's probably some runaway princess from an alien planet who needs our help."
(F/N) grinned. "Or maybe it's a cursed prince with amnesia or something like that."
Shinpachi sighed. "Do you guys ever stop thinking about anime? Fine, if no one else is gonna open that door, I will."
And with that, Shinpachi slid open the door to reveal the last thing any of them had expected.
A note lying on the porch.
"Seriously?" (F/N) muttered. "Could they be any more cliché?"
"Who knows," Shinpachi said, picking it up. "This might be more interesting than you think."
With that, he opened the letter, and began to read.
To my characters,
It's finally happened. The editors have forced my hand. The next arc of Gintama will be a training arc.
Gin's jaw dropped. "No..."
"Yes!" Kagura leapt off Sadaharu, pumping her fists in the air. "Finally, I get to go to the mountains, and then I can have a bear hold my feet while I do push-ups, and then—"
"Cut that out!" Gin snapped, smacking her over the head with a rolled-up newspaper. "This is a serious matter! My laid-back lifestyle is at stake here!"
