(F/N) woke with a start, blinking rapidly as she tried to figure out where she was. When she heard the sound of familiar snoring from the next room, however, she remembered.
That's right...I stayed at Gintoki-kun's place late, so he let me sleep on the couch.
She sighed, and laid back down, pulling the blanket over herself.
Come to think of it, I wonder what woke me up?
The sky answered her question with a crash of thunder. (F/N)'s hands flew over her mouth as she choked back a scream.
Shit! Why did this have to happen here? I don't want to wake anyone up!
She caught a glimpse of lightning through the curtains, and covered her ears. The thunder sounded a moment later. It was louder than expected, and she released a whimper from deep in her throat.
I should probably walk a bit—get a glass of water—it might help me calm down.
She stumbled to her feet just as another round of thunder came. (F/N) screamed, banged her shin on the coffee table, and ended up curled into a ball on the floor, tears pricking her eyes.
"Ugh...what's that racket?" Gintoki groaned, sliding open the door to his room. "Kagura, what was that noise? Are you sleepwalking or something?"
It took a moment for him to notice (F/N) on the floor. She tried to wipe the tears from her face, hoping he wouldn't notice.
"(F/N)-chan, what—"
She heard a crackle of thunder, and quickly covered her ears. Through the pounding of her blood, she could barely hear Gintoki's voice.
"Wait, are you scared of thunder?"
Don't laugh...please don't laugh...
The lightning flashed, followed closely by a crack of thunder that shook the rickety apartment. (F/N) shrieked. Moments later, she felt a gentle hand over hers, and opened her eyes to see Gintoki kneeling in front of her.
"Hey, you okay?"
She shook her head, and threw her arms around him just as another round of thunder started.
Gintoki sighed over the noise. "Oh, well, then. Looks like I have no choice."
He scooped her into his arms.
(F/N) yelped as she felt her body leave the floor, and clung to the front of his shirt. Moments later, she was dumped onto his futon.
"G-Gintoki-kun? What..."
He left the room for a moment, and returned with a set of Kagura's earmuffs, plopping them over her ears before lying down, pulling up the covers, and wrapping (F/N) in a crushing hug.
"Gi...Gintoki-kun?"
He grunted sleepily, and (F/N) found herself smiling just a little. The thunder sounded distant now, and even with the occasional rumble, when surrounded by Gintoki's warmth she found she could relax.
"Thank you..." she murmured.
"Don't bother," he muttered, "I just needed something to squeeze, that's all." He tightened the hug to demonstrate.
(F/N) giggled. "Yeah, sure. Goodnight, Gintoki-kun."
"'Night."
