"Kamui...hey, Kamui..."

(F/N) sat beside Kamui in his room. She poked him repeatedly as he cleaned his umbrella, pointedly trying to ignore her. Contrary to popular opinion, Kamui could have a lot of patience. It's just that it only extended to two people: his mother, and (F/N).

(F/N) was a fellow yato who had known Kamui since he lived on Rakuyou. She was an orphan, and his mother often treated her as though she were her own daughter. When Kamui left for the Harusame, (F/N) joined him; mostly out of worry for him, partly out of a desire for adventure. She liked to think she knew everything about Kamui, but there was one thing that remained a mystery: his hair.

No matter what, he kept it in that braid—even when he slept. He went through more shampoo and conditioner than she did, and no matter what, he would not let anyone touch it.

"Kamui..." she whined, "please let me touch your hair! Kamui!"

He slammed his umbrella on the ground. "Do you want me to kill you?"

She flinched. He was starting to get annoyed. "No. Sorry..."

(F/N) got off the bed, and turned away from him, purposefully hunching her shoulders as she slunk away. Another thing about Kamui: he was great at fighting, but horrible at reading her emotions.

"(F/N)-chan?" Kamui said. "Are you upset with me?"

"No..." she mumbled. "It's just...why won't you let me touch your hair? Do you not trust me at all?"

"It's not that..." he puffed out his cheeks. "My old man went bald. What if someone tugs on it and it all falls out?"

In spite of herself, (F/N) chuckled. "That's your reason?

Kamui glared at her. "Are you laughing at me?"

"Yes!"

"(F/N)-chan, I'm really going to have to kill you now."

He wasn't serious this time, but (F/N) still withdrew for the sake of her potential hair-touching privileges.

"Right, sorry."

He looked her over, and turned his back to her.

"Your laugh just then was cute."

(F/N) blushed. "What?" How can he say such embarrassing things so easily?

"You can touch my hair if you want," he told her, "but only if I get to touch yours, too. It looks really fun to play with."

Okay, seriously! This guy...

She jumped onto the bed and was about to pull out his hair tie when he spoke.

"Say 'thank you, Captain Kamui.'"

(F/N) sighed, and clapped her hands together as if she were about to eat. "Thank you, Captain Kamui."

She undid his tie, and ran her fingers through his braid until it all lay straight. Her fingers brushed his bare neck, and lingered on the warm skin a moment. She thought she heard Kamui's breath hitch, but she couldn't be sure. She ran her fingers through one more time just so she could feel it, and she was sure she heard him moan.

"Kamui," (F/N) said, "did you make a noise just now?"

"N-no!"

"Really? Because I thought you did."

"No, I didn't." he turned towards her and smiled. "Understand?"

"Yes, sir!"

She gathered his hair in her hands to rebraid it, and sighed. "Your hair's so soft. It's like a rabbit."

"We are called the rabbits of the night, after all."

"Yeah, but mine's nowhere near this soft." She chuckled. "I've always lamented the fact that we can't have cute animals on this ship, but I guess there is one."

She meant it as a joke, but Kamui took it a little more seriously.

"You think I'm a cute animal?"

(F/N) froze. "What? No! I think you're cute...and...soft..." her face turned bright red. What was she even saying?"

"You think I'm cute," he repeated. "Do you mean like an animal?"

"No."

"A baby?"

"No."

"A boyfriend?"

"Let's change the subject!" She quickly finished the braid, and turned around. "My turn!"

She expected Kamui to roughly pull at her hair, but his fingers were surprisingly gentle as he raked them through, sending shivers down her spine. She'd always loved it when people played with her hair, but his fingers were by far the best she'd ever felt.

"Your hair isn't as soft as mine," Kamui admitted, his fingers lingering on her upper back, "but I love it."

"You love my hair?" (F/N) echoed. She really didn't get how he could say embarrassing things so easily.

"Your hair," he repeated, "and you."

(F/N)'s body would have tensed if it wasn't for the even strokes of his fingers. She never would have thought Kamui of all people would say that.

"You love me," she murmured. "How? Like a mother?"

"No."

"A sister?"

"No."

"A...girlfriend?"

All at once, he enveloped her in a hug, his arms around her waist, her back against his broad chest, his face buried in the hair he loved so much.

"Yes. That's it. Be my girlfriend?"

By then, (F/N)'s face was solid red.

"I really don't get how you can say such embarrassing things out loud."

"Is that a yes?"

"...Yes."

Author's note: Sorry this one kind of requires you to have long hair. I just really liked this idea, and wanted to write it. If you liked this story, please remember to vote!
