Due to the nature of the job, days working at the Yorozuya could range from 'I watched a convenience store' to 'there were ninjas and penguins and oh yeah I almost died.' There was no predicting which it would be when you woke up in the morning, but over her years of dating Sakata Gintoki, (F/N) had learned to tell which it had been just by looking at his face when he got home.
That day, it was twelve AM when he stumbled inside, a frown on his face and bags under his eyes. It took a total of three seconds for him to collapse on one of the couches, head thrown back like a broken bobblehead. (F/N) stole a glance at him before returning to her reading material. She was lying on her back on the other couch, flipping through a Jump she'd stolen from him earlier that day. The fact that he didn't care she'd taken one of his precious magazines spoke more than anything else.
"Bad day?" she asked.
A moment of silence. Then she heard him mutter under his breath, "I'm never taking another job from that idiot again."
"Uh-huh." (F/N) turned the page. "You're not hurt, are you?"
"No."
"Good." She turned another page. "Where're Kagura and Shinpachi?"
"Patsuan went home. Kagura's staying over there tonight."
(F/N) nodded. Good, so everyone's okay.
She turned another page, and he moved to lie down on the couch.
"You wanna talk about it?" (F/N) asked.
He didn't say anything. She looked over to find he had his arms thrown over his face, and when he did speak, it was a mumbled mess.
"Goddamn Zura...if he does that again, I'm gonna shove a sword up his ass..."
(F/N) giggled, and Gin moved his arm out of the way to glare at her.
"What're you laughing about?"
"Nothing! Sorry, just ignore me."
She turned back to the magazine, and continued to flip through the pages. It seemed he wasn't in the mood to talk, and that was fine with her. With any luck, they'd be going to bed soon. They could talk about it in the morning.
Several minutes passed before she heard him get up. His footsteps came closer, and by the time (F/N) thought to look up, he was already hovering over her, straddling her waist with a hand on each side of her head.
"Gin, what are you—oof!"
He collapsed on top of her, burying his face in her chest. His arms went around her waist, and she felt him smile as his fluffy hair tickled her chin. (F/N) giggled, and wrapped him in her arms, the Jump falling forgotten to the floor.
"If you wanted to cuddle, you could've just said so."
"Too much work."
She smiled down at him. Her hands, as they always did, went to his hair, petting down the locks and watching as they sprung up again. It was so soft, she thought. Like Sadaharu's fur.
"You're adorable, you know that?" she murmured.
He grunted into her chest. "Shut up."
"I mean it, you know."
"I said shut up. You're ruining my nap."
She giggled, resuming her fingers' exploration of his hair.
Oh, well. Looks Like I'm sleeping here tonight.
