"Hey, Abuto-san, why are yato called the rabbits of the night?"

(F/N) had often times been called fearless—though it was usually phrased more along the lines of 'reckless idiot' or 'suicidal maniac.' Perhaps this was the reason she had the guts to sit next to Abuto—a yato and second-in-command to Kamui—at lunch, and ask such a strange and pointless question.

"Why are we called that?" Abuto thought for a moment. "I don't know, actually. It's probably because in Japan, yato is written with the kanji for 'rabbit,' and 'night.'"

"Eh? Really? But the yato were called the rabbits of the night before the amanto made contact with Japan, right?"

"Yeah, I guess so."

"Then why are you called the rabbits of the night?"

Abuto sighed. "I don't know...maybe because we're sensitive to the sun, and rabbits weaken if they're exposed to too much sunlight?"

(F/N) put a finger to her lips. "Maybe...but there isn't anything else rabbit-like about the yato that I've seen..."

Abuto smirked. "I don't know. The Captain seems pretty rabbit-like to me."

"Kamui-san? Really?"

"Are you talking about me?"

Abuto jumped in his seat. (F/N), meanwhile, beamed as Kamui sat across from her.

"Kamui-san! Abuto-san said—"

Abuto clamped a hand over her mouth.

"Don't repeat that to him, you suicidal idiot!"

"I'm fowwy," (F/N) mumbled.

"Oh?" Kamui said with a smile. "Is there something you don't want me to know?" He looked from one of them to the other, and Abuto frantically shook his head.

"Nope! Nothing like that at all! Let's just get to eating, yeah?"

That seemed to be a good enough for Kamui, and he quickly dug into his impressive number of plates of food. Meanwhile, (F/N) tilted her head. Why did Abuto seem so scared? Was she missing something?

"Anyway, (F/N)-san," Kamui said around a mouthful of food, "it's unusual for an outsider to sit with the seventh division. Is there some special occasion?"

(F/N) looked around. She supposed it was unusual. The cafeteria at the Harusame Base was rarely used, so there were many open tables. Anyone with any survival instinct wouldn't choose to sit with the most violent race in the universe.

"No special occasion," (F/N) answered as she tucked into her own—much smaller—portion of food.

She kept an eye on Kamui all through the meal. What was rabbit-like about him? She desperately wanted to ask, but she didn't want to get Abuto in trouble.

Partway through the meal, (F/N) grabbed Abuto's collar, tugging him down so she could whisper in his ear.

"So if I want to collect data, I have to do it discreetly, right?" she whispered.

"Um...yes?"

Kamui stared at them. "The two of you have gotten awfully close all of a sudden. Abuto, you aren't keeping a secret from me, are you?"

Satisfied with the answer she got, (F/N) released Abuto, and began furiously typing on her tablet. If she wanted to get satisfactory information, she had to see Kamui in his natural state, and that meant...

"Kamui-san," (F/N) said, "can I watch you fight?"

"Watch me fight?" he echoed. He tilted his head, and looked her over a moment before turning to Abuto.
