(F/N) slowly opened her eyes. Her body felt heavy, and she was strangely numb. The light was bright, stabbing her eyes like needles.

She didn't know how long it was before a man in a white coat walked in, hands in pockets.

"How're you feeling?" he asked. "You were in a pretty bad accident. Do you remember anything?"

That's right...we were fighting someone, and the ship caved in on me.

"Not really..." she answered. She didn't know what cover story the others had used, but this doctor definitely didn't know she was in the Kiheitai.

"Well, that's to be expected," the doctor replied. "Anyway, your vitals are all good now, but I'm afraid I have some bad news. Your leg became infected, and we had to amputate it. I'm sorry."

(F/N) started, sitting up and patting the area around her legs. The right one was amputated below the knee. She couldn't walk.

"Wait, slow down!" the doctor shouted, taking her shoulders and easing her back into bed. "It'll be okay. We can fit you up with a prosthetic no problem!"

Kamui...Kamui hates weaklings.

She rubbed her hands over her eyes, trying to focus on something—anything—else.

"Has...has anyone come to see me?" she asked.

"Your brother and sister have come here everyday. No one else has been in the room."

Matako and Bansai must have pretended to be my brother and sister. That was good of them.

"Your boss has also come to the hospital," the doctor continued, "and two friends of yours—a couple of older men."

Takasugi, Abuto, and that lolicon guy that makes good target practice.

"And your boyfriend stayed here the whole time."

...There it is. If he's still here, Matako and Bansai haven't told him.

"Please don't let anyone in," she whispered. "I...I want to tell them myself when I'm ready."

"I understand," the doctor replied.

At that moment, a nurse barged in, panting. "Miss! Your boyfriend wants to see you!" he paused to take a breath. "We told him you were talking to the doctor, but he's holding an umbrella gun to another nurse's head!"

The doctor stared at her, and (F/N) sighed.

"Where are we?"

"Um...Edo."

"Give me a phone. I'll call the Yorozuya. Kagura-san can take care of things until I'm ready to see him."

A day later, (F/N) compromised with herself and decided to talk to Abuto. He was reasonable, and he knew Kamui better than anyone.

The minute he walked in, he noticed her missing leg.

"I see..."

He scratched the back of his neck, and pulled up a chair next to her bed. (F/N) glanced at him, then at her hands.

"Do you think..." she whispered, "do you think Kamui will still love me?"

"I don't know," Abuto admitted. "That guy's a mystery to me, but he's desperate to see you. He almost killed someone, you know. Were you the one that called his sister?"

"Yeah," she answered. "At least they won't let him in the hospital anymore."

"I don't think they have a choice."

(F/N) didn't say anything. She just continued staring at her lap, completely motionless.

Abuto took a long look at her, and sighed.

"Well, don't say I didn't warn you."

(F/N) did not heed Abuto's warning.

Several days later, she was wheeling herself back from the cafeteria when she spotted a familiar orange head in the crowd. Her blood ran cold. She tried to turn herself around, but it was too late. He ran towards her, and, ignoring the wheelchair, and pulled her into his arms.

"Ka-kamui!" she exclaimed. "Get off! You're hurting me!"

It was a lie, but he let her go.

That's when he spotted her missing leg.

She didn't know how he would react. She didn't even know how to respond when he spoke.

"Is this why you didn't want to see me?"

She could only nod. He raised his eyebrows, waiting for a further explanation, and when she spoke, she realized how dumb her words sounded.

"I...I'm sorry. I'm not strong anymore. I'll understand it...if you want to leave me."

He wrapped her in a hug, his breath warm against her ear.

"Did you really think I would leave you? Haven't I told you before? You're my most precious thing."

Finally, she was able to relax in his arms. Everything would be okay, as long as Kamui was with her.

Suddenly, he put his hands under her armpits, and hoisted her into the air.

"Besides," he continued, "now we can get you one of those super cool cyborg legs, and you'll be even more strong! Maybe almost as strong as me! Let's start looking at catalogs right away! They have some in the lobby. I know because it was really boring waiting for you to wake up."

(F/N) giggled as he continued to rant. Then he lifted her onto his shoulders, and smiled up at her.

"And until your new leg comes, I'll be your other leg."
