"Ahahaha! Gintoki-dono, I knew you still had the Joui warrior's spirit!"
"Has your hearing gone, too?" grumbled a tired voice. "I told you I never want to be involved in another one of your dirty schemes again!"
"Ah, Gintoki-dono, you do have such a sense of humor! Now come, our allies are waiting!"
(F/N) casually flipped through her manga, listening to the muffled voices outside. So this was what Katsura had meant by 'special guest.' She'd been wondering about that.
Slowly, the voices grew closer, bickering back and forth like angry five-year-olds. Soon, the door flew open, and Katsura burst in, an angelic smile on his face. Gintoki followed, scowling like an angry teenager. Both men looked like they'd taken a casual walk through a raging tornado.
"Gintoki-dono," Katsura said, gesturing to the room, "you see, everyone is—huh?" He blinked. "(F/N)-dono, where is everyone?"
"Oh, them?" (F/N) forced a smile. "You were taking too long, so they...kind of left. I think they're going to the movie theater to see My Neighbor Pedro."
"Is that so?" Katsura frowned. "Well, that's all right. We'll make do. Gintoki-dono, you know (F/N)-dono, right?"
"Oh, yeah." Gin shoved a finger up his nose. "I remember you."
"I'm sure you do," she replied. "We've been friends for years, thank you for remembering. Anyway, the two of you should probably clean up. You look like you got caught in a monsoon. What were you doing, anyway?"
"Well, you see—"
"Zura tricked me into helping him bomb a building," Gin answered before Katsura could stretch the truth. "Then the Shinsengumi chased us for more than twenty blocks. We wound up running through the monkey exhibit at the zoo, then somehow wound up in a carwash. The Shinsengumi went after us, but Kondo got stuck in one of the giant brushes, and we got away just in time."
(F/N) chuckled nervously. "I see..."
"I hardly tricked you," Katsura protested, heading for a nearby drawer. "I don't see why you need to be so shy. The Joui will welcome you—"
"(F/N), a mirror," Gin said, sitting next to her. (F/N) handed him her small hand mirror, and he set about picking all the leaves and twigs out of his hair, ignoring Katsura as he continued to talk. The Joui leader continued rummaging through drawers, eventually emerging from one with an 'aha!'
"(F/N)-dono," he said, handing her a comb, "would you brush my hair for me?"
"Oh—um, okay. Sure."
(F/N) took the comb with a flustered nod, and waited as Katsura sat down with his back to her. With trembling fingers, she took a lock of hair in her hand, and began to brush.
Katsura's hair was just as soft as it looked, slipping through her fingers like strands of silk. It smelled strangely sweet, and she did her best to hold back a blush as she worked out another knot, letting the hair fall back into place around his shoulders. Gin watched from the side, eyebrows raised, and (F/N) shot him a glare.
Once she was done, Katsura stood, and thanked her before retiring to the bath. (F/N) was left with Gin, fighting to keep her breathing steady, and thanking whoever was listening that Katsura was such an oblivious idiot.
There was someone else in the room, however, who wasn't so oblivious.
"So," Gin said, sliding closer, "what's with the hair brushing?"
(F/N) flinched.
"Hair brushing?" she stammered. "What's wrong with hair brushing? Isn't it normal for friends to brush each other's hair?"
