In Dakota's life, he was ordinary. He also looked ordinary. He was a good employee, loved by his family, and had a girlfriend. After a terrible misunderstanding, his girlfriend suddenly breaks up with him, his job goes up in smoke, and now his fathe...

"Ma'am I don't understand." He asks, startled by her question but of course not showing it.
"What's not to understand? I asked what is your status." She asks once more, crossing her leg over the other.
Nox wanted to squirm and fiddle with his fingers, under her sharp gaze. Why was his body reacting to her scent? He's never reacted to anyone's scent. Was it because of her status as a True Alpha?
"In my file, it says I'm a Beta." He confirms, his voice hard.
Hotarusniffs the air and raised an eyebrow. His stomach knots in fear, but he keeps his stone-cold face.
Her expression turns blank. "Just double-checking," she says.
She slides off her desk and walks towards him.
His heart jumps when her smell invades his nose once more making his legs want to buckle. He looks down at the short, but extremely beautiful woman.
She looks him up and down with curiosity. "You strangely don't have a scent. I mistook you for another alpha when I first saw you."
That was a side effect of the pills he was so dependent on.
She looked like she was trying to figure him out, and without a scent, she had only his word to confirm what he was.
"You are a strange Beta," She comments. He was going to take that as a compliment. He'd been called much worse.
Nox didnt make any physical movement and responds, "I've been mistaken for one before Ma'am." He honestly couldn't count how many people assumed he was an Alpha. Or how many Omegas kept coming up to him.
Nevertheless, he wanted to put distance between him and her. Hotaru'sscent was strangely making him a little dizzy and didn't want to or care to find out why.
"Will that be all ma'am?" He asks, keeping his voice flat. Were bodyguards supposed to talk this much to their clients? He had hoped this job would require minimum talking. She seemed like one of those stuck-up Alphas who felt like they needed to know everything, and he definitely wouldn't have accepted this job if he knew, she was the one he was guarding.
She looks him in the eye and Nox forces himself to not look away. He just needed to get through the day and then go home.
"Yes, that's all. Your dismissed."She finally says. Hotaru turns her back to him and walks to her desk sitting down.
Nox bows and turns around walking out of her office, and closing the door behind him.
Outside the door he takes position and guard's the entrance.
Nox felt better being away from her. He didnt like how she made him feel.
At this point, he wanted to go home and cuddle with Kimi and Mochi to calm down. They were always so warm and comforting, and their fur was so soft. He also wanted to hug Oscar.
Thinking about them always helped him reign in control.
He knew he couldn't go home early. He had a job— and he'd never failed a job. It should be easy, protect her until the stalker is caught— and Nox can go back home.
He was already exhausted mentally having to talk to her.
*Static* "Sir?"
Nox lifts his walkie after looking down at it. He's honed his expression to appear emotionless and frigid throughout the years.
"What?" He asks.
"Uh- Shin spotted someone with binoculars circling the building. He ran after them but lost them in the crowd."
Nox grunts, "What did they look like?"
"Shin said the figure had short brown hair and black clothes. They were about 5'10 and had an average build."
'Most likely a male then.'
"Did he catch their scent?"
"Shin was positive the person was an alpha."
Nox did not want to deal with more alphas today— why was an Alpha after her? His other side felt sad and compelled to comfort and help Hotaru.
Nox scowls, it didn't matter— it wasn't his job to figure out why she had a stalker, or to comfort her.
It was just his job to protect her.
He lifts the walkie-talkie again, "Got it, inform everyone else of the suspect's appearance and get back to your protocol positions." He commands
Nox couldn't help his deep sympathy for people. It came from— being what he was.
Did being what he was though make his work as a bodyguard any more difficult? No, whatever traits he possessed as a result of his status were long ago placed in a box. Lots of things were in that box— including his real self, and memories he didn't want to relive. When he joined the military he didn't touch the box for 8 long years.
He was only allowed to open that box when he felt he was safe. Being a sniper for the military— was anything but safe.
It was always exhausting— pretending— but he'd been doing it for so long, Nox couldn't stop now even if he wanted to. He'd fought so hard for so long to keep that box hidden. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . It was his only— secret.

Thank you for reading.
Any of ya'll excited? I am, I actually really want to start writing this book, but like I said before, it is impossible for me to write two books at once. I'll most likely only start this book once A Dragons Treasure is finished.
I'm still working on the description, but once I'm done I'll maybe publish the character profiles on the actually book. I'm rethinking doing character profiles.
I can't wait to start writing, and bring you guys into the world of a Bodyguards Secret.
