Chapter 28: Simple Thievery

It was the next morning, Aster was preparing himself for battle, if it ever came to that during the pursuit. Packing any weapon he might need was essential, so he brought a large bag, big enough to fit a claymore, a sword, a dagger and a set of arrows. His breakfast was also fit for battle, with him choosing an array of meat and vegetables from the kitchen, much to the servants' dismay, who weren't expecting a culinary bandit at 6 in the morning.

Unlike during his initiation, he didn't get to sit in the fancy quarters where the high ranking members have their meals. As a soldier, he had to sit in the small cafeteria on the lower floor of the mansion where all 3 squads congregate. It was crowded and each squad was called individually for food, but some opted for the bin if the food wasn't too thier pallette. As Aster entered the room, the soldiers in Rou's squad dragged him over to talk to him.

"Hey Aster, have you been preparing the strategy?", Leon exclaimed. "Strategy? Has Rou got a stick up his arse or something?", Aster replied. "How dare you say that about our superior!", Leon called out in shock. "We always have a strategy in place to ensure we don't get caught, whether it goes well is up to the group.", Demitris declared, facepalming at Aster's lack of knowledge.

"Okay, I know this is a rush, but do you even know what we're stealing?", Aster pondered. "Did Rou not tell you? That's irresponsible! We're stealing documents that are rumoured to be left by the anonymous associate that betrayed the group, they're probably barely linked if this guy is known for deception, but we take our chances.", Tamara explained.

"Now aren't you getting to be a smart kid!", Leon replied, patting Tamara on the head, Tamara shook him off. "Is anyone going to take me seriously? I got all this information from the big boss. They were taken by Eve Renegard's search party when Ruby's body was found, we can't have them stealing information that is vital to keep the harmony between syndicates".

"Leon, Tamara, do you mind telling me your abilities? There could be a battle on our hands if we mess up.", Aster exclaimed. Leon spoke up, "My hearing is enhanced to 5 times greater than a typical human, I'm normally called to jobs like robberies because I can detect enemies before anyone else can.".

"And what about you, Tamara?", Aster asked. "You know how crime syndicates always temper with the corpse to make a point? That's where I come in. Whatever i write on paper appears written in blood on the body of my choice. I can also use it to cause minor injuries on people who are alive.". Aster was impressed with Rou that he'd thought out the abilities of the squad to a T.

"I guess we're ready then.", Leon declared. As soon as he had finished speaking Rou, entered the room to get them. "Leon, Tamara, Demitris and Aster, please enter the main hall immediately! It's time to go.". "Yes sir!", said Leon, saluting. "No need for formalities, let's get off.". Rou seemed much happier than yesterday, maybe talking with Aster actually helped him, a new thing for Aster to experience.

The squad suited up, preparing for the assault. Aster was used to stealing what people didn't let him have and hoped this particular robbery would give the syndicate some intel into the traitorous associate; even if the documents barely link, Aster was going to put his whole heart into the job.
