Yasuke is the only known person of African descent to be promoted to a samurai, and the title was given to him by Oda Nobunaga. A group of Christian Monks had brought Yasuke, which was a slave at the time, into Japan. Yasuke was slightly over 6 feet tall, and was recorded to be in his 20's at the time. Yasuke knew some Japanese and Oda Nobunaga wanted to be introduced to him.
After taken a liking of him Oda had asked if Yasuke could stay, in which the monks had let him. Oda later gave Yasuke the title of samurai, becoming his right hand man soon afterwards. After Oda died, there's not much history of what happened to Yasuke, though there it is said he met with the Chinese monks who were surprised he was alive. There's also a netflix original named after Yasuke... caled Yasuke.
