In 1173 the Tower of Pisa's construction began and thanks to the soft ground, it is noted that the tower began to lean by the time its builders got to the third story, in 1178. the architect and engineer did try to stop the lean, by making the remaining stories shorter to no avail. They neglected that it was the shifting soil that had destabilized the tower's foundations, not the weight or height of the building. Over the next 800 years, it was clear that the tower wasn't just leaning but sinking at a rate of one to two millimeters per year (less than an inch). The Leaning Tower of Pisa is leaning more than five meters (16 feet).
Bonus Fact, since I'd say 99% of people know about The Leaning Tower of Pisa: Big Ben (Elizabeth Tower) in London is leaning over so much it can now be seen with the naked eye. In 4,000 years it will be at the same angle as The Leaning Tower of Pisa. Of course, The Tower would be even leaning further by then.
