In the earliest version of the story in One Thousand and One Nights, Aladdin being a poor youth living on the streets of China. He also wasn't a foreigner either. He was a native Chinese boy and not an Arabian youth who's ended up in China. Nor was he an orphan: in the earliest versions of the story, Aladdin was a lazy boy living at home with his mother. In the tale of Aladdin, there were Arabian Muslims with Arabic names. But Aladdin was Chinese, probably why many chose to change the story a little bit.
