Every one hundred years, the Moon adds approximately 1.7 milliseconds to a day. While this may be minuscule, it does add up: Over the past 350 million years, the Earth's rotation has slowed by about an hour. The Moon's gravity is dragging mostly on the oceans, mainly because of the size of the Pacific Basin, the Moon is very effective at slowing the Earth's rotation.
