The male Ostrich can roar like a lion. The male Ostrich is capable of making a roaring noise but it tends to add a hiss with it kind of like a snake. It's not quite like a lion as the first sentence implies, however it'll scare the crap out of anyone who hears it. It's not even for intimidation either, it's actually their behavioral sound that comes naturally to them. From a distance it can be misheard as a lions roar and where the misleading fact comes from.
