In 1996 Pepsi once promised to give out a Harrier jet, well not really... Basically in 1996 you could buy Pepsi products and earn points which could be redeemed for t-shirts, hats, and other things. Well Pepsi released a commercial that included a bit where a Harrier military jet was available for 7 million points.
Business student John Leonard noticed a loophole: you could purchase Pepsi points from the company for 10 cents a piece. At this price, the $33.8 million Harrier jet would drop to the price of $700,000. He had a group of investors and sent a check for his jet.
Pepsi refused, and the case was brought to court. Around the time they changed they Harrier jet to 700 million points in the commercial. In 1999, it was settled when a judge ruled that "no reasonable" person could have expected the prize. And thus, Leonard never got his jet.
