There was a man who was a dwarf and later became a giant. His name was Adam Rainer born in Graz, Austria-Hungary, in 1920. When he was 21 years old he only stood at 3 feet 10.5 inches tall. By his 32nd birthday he was 7 feet 2 inches. This rate of growth was 3.6 inches a year. It turned out he had a tumor on his pituitary gland, which caused this phenomenon. As a result of his gigantism he became bedridden for the rest of his life and he died in 1950 (age 51) he had reached a height of 7 ft 8 in. Rainer is the only person in recorded history to be both a dwarf and giant.
