When morning finally arrived, I was first to wake.
Lillian still slept on the other side of the door. She looked peaceful, gentle I'd go as far to say. Her auburn curls were still the same untamable mess they used to be but her freckles had faded over the years. Slowly she lifted her head from where it had hung and rubbed her eyes before turning to me, "At least the storm has cleared up." With that, she pushed herself to her feet and made her way to the balcony.
"The professor will be here soon, we won't have to wait much longer." I rubbed my tired eyes,
She ignored me and climbed up onto the railing, holding the gutter above her head.
"Get down!" I snapped, stumbling to my feet fearfully,
Lillian shifted and turned to face me, "Scared that I will fall?"
"More scared that I will get the blame,"
She swung back and fourth nonchalantly, a small grin on her lips until she spun back around, "Don't fret, I am just bored." She spent a few longer moments looking beneath her before she jumped back down. She brushed herself off and pulled my sweater off while she was at it before taking a seat again.
That was until footsteps echoed through the small open space and our heads snapped to each other quickly. "Don't just sit there, hide!" Lillian snapped,
"Me? Why do I have to hide?"
"Because that's your brother." She said,
"How do you know –?"
"– I just do."
I groaned, standing up and hiding behind a large telescope as if it'd do something. Without her watching I transformed into my Animagus, a black dog, crouching more as Lillian tried to find where I'd hid but failed. In a matter of seconds, the door had been unjammed with the help of a spell, and she was correct when my brother busted through the door.
She ran to his arms, wrapping her arms around his neck and burying her head into his shoulder. He was taken back by the movement but quickly embraced the hug, resting his head on hers. "You're very cold," Regulus told her,
"You'd expect that." She muttered, pulling away and glancing back at me but failing to find me again. I watched her bottom lip slip between her teeth quickly before she looked back at Regulus.
"You hungry? Also, apparently, my brother is missing too, you killed him?" Regulus asked her.
Lillian laughed nervously, "No, I haven't seen him. And no, I didn't kill him as much as I'd like to."
"Very well, let's go because you're freezing. And also, why didn't you come to drinks last night? We missed you and I tried finding you but I couldn't. Didn't think you were stupid enough to lock yourself out here."
"Yeah, well I did." She grabbed his arm and guided him down the stairs, making sure to leave the door open for me.
The next day in potion she ignored me completely. She hadn't said something smart-assed or didn't point out something I'd done wrong and call me an imbecile. She didn't death glare me when I mocked her over stupid things, and she didn't even look over at me. I rolled my tongue in my mouth, hesitating whether or not to start banter, to comment on her poor handwriting or how she had ink on the tips of her fingertips, but I never said anything.
Halloween was going well – I adored Halloween – everyone did. Lillian sat across the room with a nasty glare plastered on her face. I followed her gaze to Barty Crouch, laughing with Wren and Regulus.
"So," James said as he took a bite of sourdough dipped in his pumpkin soup, "What muggle film are we watching this year?"
"The Exorcist!" Marlene said excitedly from beside me,
