It was a simple mission.
Just break into the ministry.
And kill everyone in it.
But I didn't like to think about that part.
"Lillian, you will come with me," Voldemort said as I pulled on my fingerless gloves in the meeting room.
"Yes, sir." I nodded, standing up and following him out of the room with Mehen following me. I may or may not have sent Mehen after Elliot – not to kill him – just a good scare. So, when Mehen hissed aggressively at Elliot, it wasn't a surprise.
The rest of the death eaters apparated away – laughter filling through the room with dark smoke until only Voldemort and I were left. "They will do the hard work," He said, "You and I hold too much importance to do such slave work. You keep Mehen beside you at all times. Command him to do so."
"Do not leave my side," I said to the snake in a cold voice,
Mehen lowered his head, "Yes, Mistress."
With that Voldemort apparated to an upper wing of the ministry almost silently. I leaned over the railing, peering at the large fire the death eaters had casted – Screams echoed in the centre while people began to burn to death.
"Lillian," Voldemort demanded, clasping his hands behind his back and walking away.
I hesitated before following him.
"Your veins are made of wires." He reminded, "Those people are not pure enough to live – we are making the world a better place."
My veins are made of wires.
As long as my veins were made of wires I couldn't think of all of those innocent people that were going to lose everything including their life.
"Avada Kadavra!" He shouted at the man exiting the elevator, kicking his body aside and making me step over it. "Where are we going?" I asked,
"None of your concern."
"It is my concern," I countered, "I am not some dog that will follow you around without a purpose—"
"Yes, it is." He snapped angrily, turning to me with a snarl on his misshapen face, "You are nothing compared to me – you obey my orders and you do not ask questions."
"I am not nothing compared to you – Those people down there, they are nothing – I hold just as much power as you." I stood my ground,
"You are a weak girl – What makes you think that you are superior?" He laughed, "I am the reason you are alive – Don't act as though I am not your saviour – I am leading you to greatness – you shut your mouth and obey my orders or I will feed you to Nagini just like I do with other blood traitors."
"Your meek threats do not scare me, Voldemort. You need me. You tell me what we are doing or I will throw myself off this ledge and I will be dead. And your plan will be ruined."
"How dare you speak my name."
"Tell me where we are going."
"You will see." He began to walk off but I didn't move – in fact I stepped up onto the railing, knowing full well beneath me were burning flames.
"Get. Down." He said, his crimson eyes fuming with the reflection of the flame beneath me.
"Admit you need me – That without me everything you have built will crumble."
He didn't answer me.
"Admit it!" I shouted,
"Get down, Lillian."
