I was awoken by the sound of hissing. I rubbed my eyes, feeling what felt like a moving rope on my stomach but was actually a snake. I sat up suddenly in confusion as Mehen held his head high, hissing aggressively at something. I followed his gaze frantically, setting eyes on the large figure looming over me – Elliot.
I scampered away from him in horror, beginning to feel brittle tears sting my eyes. "Get away from me," I said,
"Oh, Lillian, you've already given yourself to me once, can't you once more?" Elliot chuckled,
A loud whimper left my lips as I fumbled for my wand.
"And now Dominic can't put that little curse of his on your door, I can visit you every night."
"Mehen," I said frantically, "Mehen, attack."
"Didn't you hear? Voldemort made me immune to black mamba venom. Your little snake can't save you now." I stumbled out of the bed opposite him.
I knew it would get me close to being killed but I refused to undergo what I once did again. I transfigured into my Animagus and flew to the door. I was able to pull the door open but Elliot's talons were already on my wings, pushing me to the ground. I thrashed my wings as I landed on the stairwell with a loud crash. I quickly transfigured back into myself
He didn't hesitate to shove me down that stairs. My head hit the wooden stairs and my body burned in agony. Once I hit the bottom of the stairs, I could already hear the footsteps approaching me. I staggered to my feet – despite my bleeding head and aching body. "Get away from me!" I screamed, my voice cracking as Mehen slithered beside me even if his protection was now useless.
"Quit making a scene," Elliot snapped, reaching the bottom of the stairs,
"Get away from me," I said again,
"No one will hear you." He snarled,
I couldn't control yet another sob leaving my lips as I continued to step away from him,
"Devaux." Voldemort's voice made me jump and I'd never thought I'd be happy to hear his abnormally deep voice, "What do you think you're doing?"
Elliot straightened his shoulders, gulping loudly.
"Causing unnecessary commotion in the middle of the night is highly inappropriate." He clasped his hands behind his back, stalking towards him, "Lillian, get back to bed. And I didn't make him immune to Mehen's venom – his venom is far too strong to ever become immune to, besides you and me of course."
I nodded, wiping my eyes and quickly slipping past Elliot and Voldemort back to my room but Mehen had other plans when he struck Elliot. Elliot screamed out in agony, falling back.
"Lillian," Voldemort glowered,
"I didn't tell him to do anything." I defended myself.
"Just get to bed." He said,
"Mehen," I hummed, letting him slither off Elliot and towards me before we retreated back to my room. I quickly closed the door, locking it with Narcissa's wand since she'd left it for me before I turned to Mehen, "Could you get in the dungeons?"
Mehen nodded, "Even when locked there is a gap just large enough for me to fit through."
"I need you to get down there, and figure out if you can unlock the door from the inside."
Mehen slipped out of the room by the crack beneath the door while I rummaged through my drawer, finding my old dagger before following him into the darkness.I watched Mehen slip under the now unguarded dungeon passage. It took a few moments until the heavy metal door slowly creaked open, just wide enough for me to slip through before I closed the door behind me.
