"I am curious," Mehen hissed as he approached me,

I glanced down at the snake, tilting my head in confusion, "What are you curious about?"

"You. You are not like any human I have encountered,"

"Well, no human is the same." I picked at my nails, speaking in parsle-tongue with him.

"You care," He flicked his tongue, "The Dark Lord doesn't – that is how you are different."

I shook my head in astoundment, "Thanks, Mehen, but if you believe I'm caring, you have never encountered a good person,"

"A good person?"

"Someone who isn't like me or anyone in this place," I explained,

"You are not good?"

"No, I'm not."

"But you saved them all,"

"That doesn't change much. We belong here. You and me."

Mehen fell silent, "But he said to go home. With him."

I parted my lips, "That doesn't mean I belong there,"

"You are wrong. We don't belong here. You are too good." He said, "We must leave,"

"We can't leave, don't you understand?"

Mehen slithered away from me and to the windowsill where he opened it with his head and slithered out.

"Mehen!" I ran to the window and pulled it up to see my snake falling out the window. Instinctively, I jumped out of the window after him, transfiguring into my Animagus and grabbing him in my talons.

"Just over through that forest," Mehen hissed at me – I was surprised I could still understand him as my Animagus, "We can leave now and no one will know,"

Dominic?

I couldn't leave Dominic.

I remained still and began to turn around until I felt Mehen's fangs latch into my skin. I let go of him instinctively and plummeted to the ground in pure shock.

"Mehen!" I cried out, staring at my bleeding leg.

He slithered up to me, hissing in my face and opening up his jaw wide, "We are leaving now."

I understood then why snakes must always have to be shown who was in charge – because that bloody snake was trying to control me.

"We are not leaving," I hissed back,

"We must," His venom dripped onto my cheek,

"We are not leaving," I said again,

"Yes, we are."

"You obey my orders!" I raised my voice,

"You're acting weak. I do not obey someone who is weak."

"I am not weak."

"I am aware, mistress. Do not proceed to act weak – those people do not matter. They are scum."

"We are scum. You are a snake." I snarled,

"No, we could be great if we leave now."

Mehen was named after Ra's protector. He was trying to protect me.

"I refuse to leave Dominic," I stood up, brushing myself off,

"He will survive without us. We must leave now before you and I murdered for betraying them!" Mehen hissed aggressively, curling into a striking position,
