Tarek and Adam had their days numbered. Even though they stayed together one month after all that happened, it was obvious they had no future as a couple.
Adam already suggested things that any other couple would think reasonable after some months of relationship. They were two adults men who barely met. Tarek refused stubbornly to lock up his cats to let him into his home. That caused so many fights because Adam was painfully aware of he loved his cats more than him. The obvious signs that his interest decreased day by day, made the poor ex gardener giving up.
- Are you leaving in the middle of the dinner? Sit down right now. Where are you thinking you're going?
Tarek pondered over after saying that. How could he talk to him like that? He didn't treat people this way. What's wrong with him?
- Don't talk to me this way. I'm not a child.
- You've been such a long time asking me to get you out for dinner to a fancy restaurant and now that we're here you're leaving.
- The fancy restaurant stuff was a joke. I don't mind having dinner at McDonalds with you.
- But we are in a fancy place, ok? Behave yourself.
- I don't wanna argue with you here.
- They won't charge us extra just because we're fighting on the table. Can you see that couple? They are fighting too -he pointed with his head the couple who were at their right arguing-. You haven't touched your Dover's sole. It look delicious, had they fried till crisp?
- You don't give a damn if I'm finishing this relationship now and here, do you?
- Taste a piece of my turbot, here. The velouté cream is amazing.
Tarek stuck his fork in a little piece well soaked in cream and headed to his mouth, but Adam rejected it with his hand.
- You miss it. Hmmmm, just great -he closed his eyes in cloud nine as he tasted the bite.
- If tonight we're not staying in your home, we're finished.
- What do we finish? -Tarek asked him looking up to him, chewing.
- Our fucking relationship. What are we talking about?
- Oh, you're delivering me an ultimatum.
- I don't have another option. You want us this way forevermore. Let our own inercia carrying us, let never be a firm compromise between us.
- My independence means the world to me. We've been talking about it a million times.
- A million times you and me? We barely meet, Tarek. And the worst is you don't want to know me -he said standing up and rummaging in his wallet.
- Are you leaving?
- I'm paying my food, the tip is included.
Tarek looked sadly at the pounds over the table. It was a very clear sign of their brief relationship. All very aseptic. Your part, my part. Your house, my house. It resembled a respectful relationship between partners in a company than a couple in love.
He didn't want to call him though he was about to dial his number a couple of times. He would go on indefinitely with that relationship. Adam's personality, flexible and accommodating had been favoured it. Adam didn't challenge, didn't push him on the edge. He didn't force him to take positions. That amazing turn of the events when he demanded him much more, caught him off his guard.
He never felt the need to take a step forward in that peculiar relationship. He didn't figure out it was a clear evidence of his lack of compromise.
He knew Adam wouldn't like the three passionate kisses with his ex in front of the whole world. He wouldn't like all the amount of fake news stating they were together again either. Nevertheless, not once he brought out the topic. He kept it for himself.
