The relentless machinery of interviews and premieres in different countries of Europe started. He hated that essential part of a movie promotion. On one side as the movie competed in Cannes festival they must go there and that brought him wonderful memories of some years ago. He met there Taron, one of the most important people in his life and right now one of his main confidents. But of course it meant hard work. An endless row of interviews, press agents, make-up artists, stylists. Enzo hated more and more talking to strangers and the excessive struggling of being nice and please everybody was massively tough. That's why he used to scatter his interviews with acid and witty comments which used to divide the opinions. There was no middle way. There were as many staunch fans as haters. He was always covered by the excess.
The festival lasted from Monday to Saturday but Enzo attended on Wednesday, the day of the screening and then there was some days of promotion. The war movie in which he was a supporting actor with many other actors, every one with interesting roles in its own right, entered the shedule as "out of competition". It was receiving different critics in spite there were clapping and standing ovations the premiere day and the next day with all the press to give its verdict.
From now on, Enzo, after getting a tan in the swimming pool of the hotel and attending every party, started his hard promotion work.
Pauline attended as usual to work together with the press agent in the interviews. There were some clear restrictions and they didn't give accreditations to all the papers and magazines which asked them. Of course his journalists friends had the access assured but not every paper treated Enzo well and he used to take venguence, restricting them. Then when he had the list of journalists with applications, he used to scan them to have an idea of their curriculums. They didn't have to be necessarily fans of his work. In fact, most of them used to be very critic.
Tarek missed him so much as Enzo missed him. Therefore he decided to take a chance and travel to Paris and from there to Cannes. He wanted to give him a surprise arriving there. He brought a simple bouquet of yellow freesias, his favourites and strode into his hotel. He gave his fake name in reception "Wilt Mason" and knocked at the door. He expected to find Duncan, Taron or Pauline. But he bumped into the hall with a bunch of journalists, all of them sitting in row as though they were in a dentist waiting room, waiting for their turn to interview Enzo.
- Hi, Tarek. What a surprise -Pauline greeted him with wide smile giving him a hug.
- I've calculated wrong. I thought it would be over.
- Bufff, no... -Pauline looked at her watch blowing her fringe-. We're a litte late.
- The hall is filled with journalists. How long could it be?
- At least two hours -Matt, his press agent, informed him.
- Don't tell Enzo I'm coming. It's a surprise.
- It is a great idea. He miss you so much and you know how he gets with this marathon sessions.
- I'm going to put them in water.
Eventually instead of visit the hotel bar to make time, he was a part time babysitter. Charlotte, Pauline's daughter and Enzo's goddaughter, was there, he entertained her as her mother worked.
The last journalist got out two and a half hours later. Tarek entered joyful with his beautiful and minimalist bouquet of freesias and found Enzo's suite literally filled with amazing flowers. Roses, lilies, hyacinths, daffodils. It was a colour explosion and Tarek felt ridiculous with his simple yellow flowers although he knew he would be delighted. Enzo was lying down on his back on a majestic Luis XV armchair with silk tapestry and massaged his eyelids with the thumb and ring finger in circles. On hearing the door closing he said not moving:
