LET ME LIVE

Tarek worked in Marygold Alley from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 m. He could take two fifteen minutes breaks to a little refreshment. As Tarek avoided to enter the house, Duncan or Taron used to get out with something for him to eat and when it rained they took it to his secret kingdom; the greenhouse.

Enzo tried to respect Tarek the best he could. The trouble was they understood the respect in a very different way.

That rainy morning, Tarek walked into there to having some tea with something sweet that Taron brought him. He found a white rose with a note tied to the stalk. He unrolled it carefully and discovered Enzo's unmistakingly handwriting. That beautiful handwriting half teacher, half doctor. "Carl is waiting for you at the entrance. Don't take the tube today. It's a horrible weather. Kisses. Enzo".

Damn him, Tarek thought guiding the rose to his nose. How could he be so manipulative and smart? He knew him so well. He knew those little details almost corny, drove him crazy. But he was a bloody kamikaze. He knew perfectly well Tarek didn't like being ruled. He grabbed his phone firmly.

- Call Carl inmediately and cancel that trip to Epping. I'm gonna taking the fucking tube.

He left the phone angry as he sipped his tea before it would be cold. The vibration appeared just then.

- Not at all. It's raining cats and dogs. Stop raise objections all the time. It's ok for Carl, it's his job. I don't care if he has to drive you to Patagony.

- Do you understand the respect like this? Arranging my life?

- I don't want you catch a cold. Haven't you read the papers? Right now there is a sort of epimedic in London.

- If you don't call Carl to cancel it, I will do.

- Don't be ridiculous. I'm paying. He will do what I command.

- Well, I will go as I wish. I'm not gonna obey your commands.

Eventually the passionate Tarek had to end up jumping into Carl's car, just to not cause him offence. And Enzo, happy with his triumph, every day sent him a different flower to his reading spot. Always with a note, sometimes mocking, sometimes romantic and sometimes he only scribbled little drawings. Usually some of the cats. Tarek kept them all in the pages of his book. The flowers and the notes.

- Could I keep you some company? -Enzo asked almost shy poking his head out the greenhouse door

- Could I keep you some company? -Enzo asked almost shy poking his head out the greenhouse door.

Tarek made him pass with a gesture. That morning he hadn't sent him any flower but he didn't say anything. Enzo settled down in the armchair and grabbed "The siege" from the table. He saw each one of his flowers, all dried on the pages and smiled so vain raising his eyebrows mockingly.

- This morning I am the flower. What do you think? -he asked smiling pointing himself from head to toe.

- Let me live, Enzo. You are harassing me.
