Chapter 2- New Beginnings

Freshman Orientation - Pasio University

Professor Oak's POV

I stood out in front of all the new students. They all glared at me with nervous excitement. They were all wearing quite different clothes, which I should've expected since they come from almost every region. "Good morning students! Welcome to Pasio University! Classes start today of course... But after class today, we'll have our tryouts for out various sports teams as well. So if you have any interest in those be sure to report to the respective coaches for a try out..." I saw a kid in a blue and white striped shirt perk up noticeably after this was said, along with one of the Hoenn freshman who did the same before being smacked in the back of the head by a light brown haired girl next to him. I sort of coughed and then continued, "...Right. Ok. So, go ahead to your first classes today that are on your schedule, best of luck to all of you!" The students got up and dispersed towards their different classes as I stood at the podium still. I shook my head and went off to my first class.

Dawn POV

"Well I think that was nice! Having classes I like to take is at least a little less boring than usual right?" I asked Lucas as we walked out of class, he shrugged, "I suppose so, it's pretty usual to me." I sighed, "I'll never understand you..." Just then a girl about my age bumped in to me which made us both make suprised sounds. The girl that bumped in to me had a long blonde ponytail and was wearing a white hoodie with stings and a white skirt. She dropped her books after she bumped in to me and then helped me pick mine up, she began, "Oh! I'm so sorry..." I shook my head, "No big deal! You in a rush to get somewhere?" She sighed, "Yes... I was going to my class... I'm so sorry...I got lost on the way..." I smiled, "Don't worry about it! See ya around..." I paused for her name. "Lillie...my name's Lillie... And you?" "Dawn." Lillie smiled, "Thanks Dawn! See you around."

After a little bit I changed in to my usual clothes I wear when battling and I went to the Pokemon Battling team tryouts, I sure would like to make the team, nothing keeps me occupied like a pokemon battle.

Kukui POV

"Alright. Welcome to Pasio University's Pokemon Battling field. Some of you were here last year, and that's great. But. No spots are secured, after our performance last year, all 10 spots on this roster are completely open. So I expect you all to put your best foot forward today, because you won't get another chance. Ready to go?" The crowd of about 30 nodded. I noticed there were quite a few freshman, let's see how they do.

I randomly paired up the trainers and had them have 1 on 1 battles. I put last year's captain up against an Alolan kid with a white and blue striped shirt. The team captain from last year was our best, but the Alolan kid dismissed him rather quickly with his Primarina. I reeled back in shock as the Alolan kid thanked his Primarina and then turned to me, "Alright Professor! What's next!" I smirked. I think this kid's a lock for the team. I also saw a Kalosian kid and his Meowstic doing rather well, so I went over to talk to him, "That's some bond with your Meowstic you've got there. The kid in the blue jacket looked around himself as if to find out who I was talking to then looked at me, "Oh! Sorry Professor! Erm- Yeah he's something..." I chuckled, "You're pretty good too, I think I'll be having another look at you when I make the decision." He smiled, "Th-thanks!" I smiled and then turned my attention to that kid with the white hair from Hoenn. He had been getting quite a few victories with his Sceptile. I walked over to him. "Hey- how'd you end up with that white hair?" He looked up and sighed as he scratched the back of his head, "Man... I guess May was right...Erm-... I mean to say, it's a hat, but according to my friend May everyone thinks it's my real hair." I laughed, "Well I can see why, it looks just like it... Anyway... That's not what I was mainly here to do... I see what you're doing with your Sceptile, and I think you two could be valuable members on this team if you can keep up this kind of work all season." He smiled, "Awesome! It'd be an honor!" I continued to scope out the practice and select the students I thought were the best. I had my 10. I didn't know their names, I didn't know anything about them. I based them purely off the skill they showed in the tryouts today. I gathered them and lined them all up.

"Alright. You 10 are the ones I am most impressed with. So... I guess this is the team... So I'm going to go around and have you each say your name and something about yourself, you start." I pointed to the girl with a black jacket and a white t shirt underneath, with a hat and long hair behind her, "Oh, alright! My name's Hilda! I'm from Unova, and uh, this is my partner Emboar. I uh- I apologise in advance, I get quite competitive when it gets to this stuff so don't take it to hard if I get mad...heh..." She trailed off and indicated she was done so I pointed to the girl next to her, who had a very light voice, "My name's Lyra! Meganium and I worked really hard with each other to get here, so it's nice to meet you guys!" I nodded then pointed to the boy next to her, "I'm Ethan and this is Typhlosion! We're from Johto, and we actually have been around Kanto as well! Happy to meet you all!" I nodded again and pointed to the one next to him. He began slowly, "I'm Hilbert. I'm from Aspertia City in Unova...this is Samurott..." He continued to glance over at Hilda, as if he had something to say to her, but thought better of it, "...uh yeah, I'm studying water pokemon so, I guess I've always liked them." I nodded, "Nice, now how about you, fellow Alolan." I said as I pointed to the striped shirt wearing boy with the Primarina. He smiled, "I'm Elio! As Professor Kukui said, Primarina and I are from Alola... I want to be a trial captain on Alola or a gym leader elsewhere someday, so hopefully we'll all get stronger together!" I pointed to the Kalosian kid and his Meowstic who he had his arms cradled under so it could stand on them. "Oh- I'm...Calem. I... I'm from Kalos. This is my Meowstic, we met when I was really young. As you can tell... I get a bit nervous, but I promise I'll give it my all in every battle." I smiled and then went on to the girl next to him, "I'm Dawn! Me and Torterra do everything together... We like to battle and watch movies and... Er- well it should be a fun year!" I chuckled and then pointed to the guy with that white hair hat thingy, "I'm Brendan and this is Sceptile! We're from Hoenn, I want to win a college Championship, that's my goal here." I nodded, "Me too. Now how about you." I pointed at the girl from Galar. "I'm Gloria! And this-" she paused to forcefully grab the guy next to her, "- is Victor! My partner is Cinderace and his is Inteleon. We're both from Galar and competed in the Gym Challenge for a bit." I nodded, there sure is some interesting personalities on this team. It's daunting but exciting at the same time. I looked out at all of them. "Well there you have it. This is the team. We've got a lot of work to do this year, and I'm excited to get to it with all of you...hey speaking of which, how many of you are freshman?" They all raised their hands. I shook my head, I just picked a team of all Freshman, if we don't win Oak is gonna have my job as a professor too. Which reminds me, "Hey! Calem! You stay for a second." He whipped around and then relaxed, "Oh ok. Sure." I pulled him aside and handed him a patch. "The jerseys aren't in yet, but this is the captain's patch. I want you to be the team's Captain." He looked at me questioningly, "Wh- I mean I'm honored but...why me, I'm not the best trainer, I'm not the most experienced, I'm certainly not the most confident and leader-like-" I stopped him, "And because that's what you think, is exactly what makes you the best for it. You seem humble, but collected. I think we need a cool head to lead all these personalities." He shrugged, "Well I suppose I won't say no, thanks Professor." I nodded. Then Calem left.

Calem POV

As I exited the battlefield I made my way to the dorms. On the way I passed through one of the other sports complexes. I was stopped by a blonde girl wearing a red Volleyball jersey, "Hey uh, do you know where the Volleyball court is?" I looked over to her, "Oh- I think it might be somewhere near the battlefield-" I pointed, "-like that way." She smiled sweetly, "Cool thanks!" She skipped off but I yelled "Uh hey!" She turned back... Stay cool Calem..."...Are- are you by chance from Kalos?" She nodded, "Yeah actually I am! I'm guessing you are too, where are you-" Her phone buzzed in her pocket and her eyes widened, "Ah! I have to get to practice, sorry... I'll talk to you later, I'm Serena by the way." I nodded, "Calem. See you around." I smiled to myself. Then went on my way.
