Chapter 35- The Favorite Son of Kalos

Commentators POV

"It is a beautiful day here in Unova! Here in Nimbasa City for the Sweet Sixteen of the International Collegiate Pokemon Battling Championship, We'll be calling some exciting matchups for you all day! I'm here along side my broadcast partner, so what the people want to know is, what teams, and what players should we be looking out for on the field today?" My partner turned to me, "Well there are a TON of exciting matchups to watch for, my personal favorite being Cinnabar Vs Hammerlocke. The clash of styles between Kanto and Galar schools is just too interesting to miss. As for players, as always keep an eye out for Matisse from Mauville of Hoenn. This man and his Meowstic fight with a constant chip on their shoulders and make others look silly for even trying to hit them. As for some other notable names to watch for, Lumiose has Jean and Alex. They have been a force to be reckoned with all season, also to watch, Pasio's trio of Calem, Brendan, and Elio. Calem leads the group with some solid stats and shot calling, but it all comes together with the sheer agression and kill potential that both Elio or Brendan can bring on any given day, they'll get points on the board if they're given space to work." I nodded, "Tough our for them today against Dendemille, Dendemille is known for its scrappy and resilient style of play, you think they can pull the upset?" My partner nodded, "Wouldn't even call it an upset. Dendemille might just be a foil for Pasio, so if they take this lightly they will lose. I think we'll have to see a big performance from Pasio's bench if they want to clear this test."

"these first 5 matches have been electric so far partner! What are the major takeaways from each one?" He looked at me and began, "Well, you'd have to say that Alola Regional nearly pulling a colossal upset on enemy soil has to be a highlight, shame that it ended like that for them, but Goldenrod showed out really well on the same kind of terms. If I'm a team in this bracket, I really hope I don't run in to them, cus they are white hot coming down the final stretch here." I nodded, "Well it seems both Pasio and Dendemille have taken the battlefield, so let's take a look at Pasio's roster for today, of course they're leading with the deadly trio of Calem, Brendan, and Elio, but the bench is a bit of a surprise, featuring Ethan, Lyra, and Gloria today." My partner nodded, "Yep. That deviates from usual choices like Selene, Victor, Hilbert, and Hilda. Interesting how they're going with some more unproven talents. We'll see how that goes." I watched as the Battle got of to a quick start, Dendemille brought the pressure, and Pasio wasn't ready for it. Dendemille took a quick 1-0 lead after taking down Calem no less. Things look grave for them to start.

Elio POV

"GAH!" I yelled in frustration as Calem got taken out. The Battle paused and we were getting ready to make our substitution. I looked to Brendan as we were over at the bench. "Who do we want?" Brendan mulled it over, "I was thinking maybe..." Kukui waited for the answer but then Gloria stepped forward and began to speak with no attempt to conceal her Galarian accent, "Alright yeh whining whelps, Cinderace and I'll lead yeh to victory!" Brendan and I stared blankly at Kukui as if to see if he was ok with it, he shrugged, "Alright. Show them what's up Gloria." I nodded then patted Calem on the back and made my way out to the field with Brendan and Gloria.

Commentators POV

"And this is an interesting call from Pasio, Gloria is coming in to be the replacement shotcaller?" My partner looked at me bewildered, "I suppose so? Elio will probably shoulder some of the duty as well but... This is such a risky choice and I don't know if now is the time to be doing it...we have restarted again..." We both watched, and we were eating our words pretty quickly, Gloria was giving clear and accurate calls with Elio's help and helping the team get in position. They ended up taking a 2-1 lead before Elio went down. "Now it's 2-2. Dendemille has a real shot here as they have taken down 2 of Pasio's big 3 with almost no repercussions. Lyra came in for Elio and the Battle began again, Pasio began to notice the plan Dendemille had and were countering effectively. They took a commanding 4-2 lead, Brendan has 2 points, Elio had 1, and Gloria has 1. The Battle continued and Gloria finally went down. Ethan came in and immediately took control of the game by trading out Gloria, leaving Dendemille in a 3 on 1 which went nowhere after Lyra quickly and cleanly demolished the last resister. "And that will be it! Pasio takes this one 6-3! They'll move on to the Elite Eight in 2 days. Will be interesting to see them there, battling with the other 7 winners from today in Hoenn."
