Chapter 12- Class Is In Session

Hilbert POV

Professor Juniper stood at the front of the board pointing to a picture of a Mantine she drew on the board. She was explaining about the biology of it and then called on me to answer about it, I answered calmly and correctly and she gave me a smile after telling me it was right. She then began, "...Well. That's about all for today's lesson, we'll have our midterms at the end of the week... And Hilbert." She looked over to me specifically, "...If you would be so kind as to deliver an L to HeaHea tomorrow that would be great, I would definitely like to see us grab a second conference win." I chuckled, "You can count on me Professor Juniper." She smiled, "Alright then. See you all next time." I picked up my books and headed out of class. I'm actually rather glad I came here, Professor Juniper is quite knowledgeable on this subject, and she's from Unova as well! Actually come to think of it, most of my life here isn't quite so different from Unova. I mean my friend Hilda is here, and I still battle and stuff... But yeah. It's pretty nice.

Calem POV

I relaxed at the fountain after class, staring at the water as it fell. I had just finished up with my public speaking mid term (That class. That one is my least favorite. I doubt you need to guess why.) (( Professor Blue is pretty fun though)) and now I'm taking a rest. I feel like I need it. Especially with the conference game tomorrow. I then felt something grab my hand and instead of jumping or reacting timidly like I usually would I smiled and let out a quiet chuckle, "Hey Serena. Glad you're here." I heard her giggle, "Hi Calem. How'd everything go today." I sighed, "Y'know... I got nervous of course, but I think I did well enough, Professor Blue said I've improved at least." Serena smiled, "Well that's good! You have any plans today?" I shrugged, "Just practice today. Why?" Serena turned her head up, "Oh... I was just wondering if maybe you'd want to...go on a date or something somewhere." I blushed, which is weird, it sometimes is hard to register in my brain that Serena is in fact my girlfriend and that it is in fact normal to do that kind of stuff with her. And she knows why too! I smiled, "Sounds like fun! Anywhere in particular you want to go?" Serena thought for a moment before answering, "I wouldn't mind catching a movie tonight if you're up for it." I nodded, "Sure. I appreciate the invitation more than you know Serena. You're the best." Serena giggled, "You know Calem, you can be such a smooth talker when you try." I shook my head, "Glad you think so..."

Brendan POV

I walked out of class leisurely, I'm getting C's in almost every class, which is good enough for me. Mostly because the real part of my day starts now. I walked on to our practice field. First one here today. That's odd, usually Calem beats me to it. Sometimes Elio and Ethan as well. But today I got here first. Welp. No time like the present to sharpen my skills. Sceptile and I practiced bullet seed for a while before Kukui came through the door, he looked around, "Hey Brendan, Calem get here yet?" I shook my head, "Nope. Not that I've seen anyway." I saw Kukui crack a smile, I looked over to him, "You mad at him of something?" Kukui laughed, "Proud of him more like. Anyway, big match tomorrow, keep working hard and we've got it in the bag." I nodded and then continued my work. Moments later the rest of the team arrived and we had a lengthy practice. Things felt like they were clicking, this team could be dangerous... And we may be a serious problem for our conference. I stood around at the end of practice and saw May waiting for me at the door, "May! What's up?" She shrugged, "Well nothing really, I just wanted to make sure practice was going alright and everything." I shrugged, "Heh. You worry too much May, we're doing just fine." May hung her head, "Yeah, I suppose." I looked worried, did I say something mean? I patted her on the back, "You alright May? I- I didn't mean to-" she looked up at me and smiled, "Yeah. I'm ok. I'm just stressed about midterms is all." I tilted my head, "You shouldn't be, you're an ace at that stuff. Don't worry about it so much! You always have and always will do just fine." She smiled, "Thanks...I guess I'll head back now, I'll see you at the match tomorrow." I nodded, "Sure. See ya May."

Elio POV

I stood on the bridge overlooking the small lake on campus. It was one of my favorite places to clear my head when I need to most. I saw across the bridge that my friend Lillie was here too. I think I'll...go talk to her or something. I walked over to her and greeted her, "Hey Lillie." She looked over, "Oh. Hey Elio." I frowned, "Is- is something wrong Lillie? I haven't ever seen you out here before..." Lillie looked out at the water and put her hand back on her ponytail to readjust it. She seemed... Sad. I hate to see her like this. She looked back to me, "I'm just... A little homesick is all. I've always had my brother to keep me company or... Mother more recently, but now it's just you and May." I felt my heart sink, Lillie noticed it somehow and quickly stuttered, "I- I didn't mean-" I shook my head, "I understand. I felt the same coming here... But getting to reconnect with you has been such a nice thing for me." Lillie smiled, "Well that's nice of you to say. I... Why...why are you out here today?" I looked out, "Well. As you know we're going up against another Alolan school tomorrow. Not that this one had anything to do with my past, I just come here to clear my thoughts and be ready when the time comes." Lillie nodded slowly, "Yeah I can see why... Having so many people watching you, expecting nothing but perfection..." I shook my head, "I don't see it like that. People think what they want to think. I can't change them. Only my family, you, and Selene have opinions that matter to me. The rest is just... Just noise I suppose." Lillie smiled, "Yeah. I suppose you're right. When I've got you here with me I really have no reason to feel so homesick..." I smiled, "Good. Now if you ever need anything else don't hesitate to give me a call." Lillie smiled, "I will Elio. Thank you."

Match Day

Pasio University (2-2)
Vs.
HeaHea City College (1-3)

Commentators POV

"Good evening ladies and gentlemen, today we have a primetime matchup for you in the Greater Islands Conference between the always competitive HeaHea City College, and the now surging Pasio University riding their first 2 match win streak in 2 years. Should be a good one so don't go anywhere." I looked down at the lineup sheet, to tell you the truth I'm rather excited to watch Pasio today to see if they really are good this year. Let's see who they have out today, the usual Calem, Elio and Brendan, and then they're using Ethan, Hilda and Dawn from the bench. That's interesting, statistically this is is close to the best line up they can put forward. I'm excited to see how this goes, there's a couple players on this team that could finish in the top 20 for MVP voting this year. I looked over to see we were back on air and began to describe the scene.

Elio POV

Brendan began, "PASIO ON 3! 1, 2, 3...!" The whole team raised their hands and yelled, "PASIO!" And then we all clapped our hands as me Calem and Brendan jogged out to center. I saw Lillie, Selene, Serena (Who I'll have to ask about Calem about later, they seem like they're dating or something), Kris, Hop, and a few other people I recognized, I waved over to them and they all cheered and waved back. I sent out Primarina and have her some confident words before we started the battle. The referees signaled the start and the three of us didn't give HeaHea a second to breathe we cruised to a couple points and the 3 of us were absolutely feeling it. We swept their first team and went up 3-0. Kukui decided to tag us out and get us a rest, while Hilda, Ethan, and Dawn entered. And they were amazing. They looked every bit as good as we did, Dawn got 2 KOs and Ethan traded out for the last one to give us a 6-1 win. I yelled and hugged Kukui as he ruffled my head so hard my hat flew off. Calem and Brendan were hyping each other up, Hilda and Hilbert did some kind of secret handshake, Dawn and Ethan jumped up and bumped each other, Victor was being hoisted in to the air by Gloria, and the larger than usual crowd in the stands erupted. Kukui patted me on the back as I jumped in to the student section to be with the people I knew there, I smiled and laughed as I high fived all of them, fist bumped Selene, then hugged Lillie. I wasn't thinking when I did it, but I sure am enjoying it. We separated and I smiled and then went back down to the field as we exited the stadium. Pasio University is here.
