Chapter 7- Lost

Hilda POV

I sat by Hilbert, "It's a shame we didn't get in today, I really think we could've done alright." Hilbert shrugged, "It is what it is, I'm gonna work hard in practice, and get so good that they'll have to put me in." I thought for a moment, "Y'know it's crazy that we end up in the same place all the time, whether it be with our parents or at college, I mean seriously, we've known each other forever." Hilbert nodded, "Yeah. I'm glad though, we keep each other in check pretty well." I giggled, "That we do. Wanna get some more practice in?" "Sure."

Days Later

Match Day 2

Pasio University (0-1)
Vs
Jubilife University (1-0)

Elio POV

I sat at the fountain next to Lillie as we had been doing for a while, we liked to sit together and study and what not. "Elio? You have a match today don't you?" I nodded, "Yeah. We gotta go all the way to Sinnoh for this one." Lillie reeled, "Woah. That's gonna be awhile isn't it?" I nodded, "Sure is. So if you have any memes or something you want to send me on my Rotom Phone for the long trip, do let me have those." Lillie giggled, "I'll do my best." I then got up and headed for the team boat. I met Calem as soon as I got there, "Hey Calem. Got the lineup for today?" Calem nodded, "Yep. Trying out something a little different, Hilbert and Hilda are coming in for Dawn and Gloria." I scratched my chin, "That's interesting, best of luck today." I patted him on the back and then boarded the boat, sitting down next to Hilbert. Hilbert looked over to me, "Hey Elio." "Hey Hilbert, you ready for today?" He nodded, "Sure am. Been looking for a chance to prove myself." I nodded, "Yeah. I get that. I'm guessing you've battled a lot with Hilda too, so you're pretty good together right?" He paused for a moment, "Er- not much actually... But yeah I think we do alright." I nodded, "Cool. Let's do it!" Brendan came and sat by me moments later and then we were off for Jubilife University.

Commentators POV

"Good evening ladies and gentlemen, today we have an interesting cross conference match up between the defending champions of Sinnoh, Jubilife University, and Pasio University. This matchup is not projected to be very close, that is to say that Jubilife should run away with it, but who knows, Pasio could surprise us. As usual, starting for Pasio is #06- Calem and Numbers 3 and 7 in Brendan and Elio. Let's see what they have in store for us."

Kukui POV

And just like that we're down to Hilbert and Hilda. I thought for sure we had this one, but Jubilife played their best players second instead of first. I sighed as I watched the Samurott and Emboar work together, Hilda got one! That's a start! I watched closely and shook my head as the teamwork of Jubilife took down Hilda, but I was then surprised by Hilbert who immediately trades it out to make it 5-5. Come on Hilbert.... I know Samurott is hurt and exhausted but just maybe...

Commentators POV

"OH! The Samurott eats a big hyper beam and that is it! Pasio made it interesting, but it will be Jubilife improving to 2-0 on the young season! My my what a match!" I was actually quite surprised. Pasio looks like they're getting a little better, maybe when they hit midseason form they might start winning one or two. Maybe.

Hilbert POV

I held my head in my hands as I stood on the field still. I was so close! Elio came over and patted me on the back, "Good try man. Gonna be a long trip back, don't let it get to ya alright?" I nodded, "Thanks Elio." I looked over and saw Brendan and Ethan discussing something, Victor, Gloria, and Lyra weren't super worried since they weren't involved, but those of us that were are hurting pretty bad. Especially Elio, Ethan, Brendan, and most especially Calem. He takes stuff hard and personally I can tell. I walked over to him, "I'm... I'm sorry Calem..." Calem shook his head, "Don't be... You gave a great effort. 1 KO and 2 Assists, I did too but... I dunno I think I should've done more." I sat down by him, "We'll get there. Just gotta keep working..." Calem sighed, "That's what I hear, but what I'm worried about is...are we working the right way?"

Brendan POV

I called May on my phone, I sighed as she answered, "Hey May." She sounded distraught, "I'm sorry Brendan, you were so close." I shook my head, "It's fine. It... Y'know it stings but... I'm sure we'll get better." May sounded relieved, "Good, keep that mindset, I'm sure you guys will be just fine." I looked down, "Yeah... I'm just so sick of losing." May replied, "Don't worry, that just means you'll work hard to not lose anymore." I nodded, "Thanks May. See ya soon." I hung up. I then leaned back and sighed. Lyra sat next to me, "Feeling ok Brendan?" I shook my head, "Not at the moment, but I'll get over it." Lyra relaxed herself then replied, "Yeah. I can understand, I haven't gotten to play yet, but man, I feel like it'd be a hard pill to swallow if I did..." I agreed, "It sure is. Everyone was counting on me, and I let them down." Lyra shrugged, "I wouldn't go that far. You had a pretty respectable performance." I shook my head, "Maybe. But it doesn't change the fact that it wasn't quite enough." Lyra seemed to space out and then asked, "Hey, who's next on the schedule?" I checked my phone, that's gonna be intriguing... "Melemele Regional. Conference game, should be interesting, as well as rather important." I saw Elio perk up on the other side of the boat, but he didn't press the issue.

Selene POV

I walked calmly out of class, finally done for the day. I mean... If you don't count homework... I continued walking before seeing the advertisement for the Harvest Festival at the end of next week. That seems like it could be a lot of fun, I can go with my friends I suppose. Or I could stay in and do nothing. Both sound equally fun. I opened the door to my room and relaxed, Kris was there as usual and she greeted me. I asked her, "You know anything about this Harvest Festival coming up?" Kris perked up, "Oh! Yeah I've heard from some of the upperclassmen that it's a ton of fun, they've got corn mazes and pumpkin patches, and haunted houses... It's really cool!" I was amazed, "That sounds like so much fun! I'll definitely go! I'll ask everyone I know and get a big group going!" Kris laughed, "As long as I can go with you!"
