Chapter 30- Finals

Ethan POV

You know, I was just checking social media to try to find out what the bracket was. I didn't expect to see the top team in the world trashing us. Elio walked in the room moments later and I showed him my phone that had a summary of the interview, he sighed, "Dear goodness, is every team in this league filled with egotistical brats?" I laughed and decided to poke fun at Elio, "Yeah, especially ours, cus we got you." Elio laughed dryly, "Whatever Ethan." We both laughed. I then looked, "Oh hey, I found the bracket for finals." Elio looked over, "Oh yeah, who do we got first round?" I scanned it, we're the 6 seed... So in a 32 team tournament that means we'll play number 27... Which is... "Dewport University." Elio thought for a moment then looked back down at his books he was studying, "Not particularly familiar with them, but if they're in it'll be a tough out." I searched through the whole field.

That's a lot of teams. I looked to Elio, "So if everything goes as planned we'll have to beat... Dewford, Dendemille, Goldenrod, Lumiose, then Mauville." Elio nodded, "That... Won't be easy... To say the least." I shrugged, "We can do it... Now I want to beat Matisse especially!" Elio chuckled, "I ain't getting involved in all that. I've had enough rivalry for a lifetime..." He sighed, "Until next season anyway..." I laughed, "It's alright, Regional knows we got their number." Elio muttered, "They better..."

Kris POV

Well, I expected finals would suck. And so far I'm not wrong. I'm pretty good at tests and stuff usually, but I have no idea what these ones will be like. Last semesters weren't awful, but those were all easy classes. I sighed deeply and planted my face in a book as Selene walked in. "Hey Kris...yeah." I nodded inside the book, "Hey Selene...you studying at all?" Selene shook her head, "Nope." I looked at her, "Really!? Like not at all?" Selene shook her head, "Nah. What happens happens." I sighed, kinda wish I could be like that, "But... You're not worried about your grades?" Selene shrugged, "I dunno. I'll probably end up studying a bit, but my memory is only good when it comes to other people, so anything I study now is gonna fly out of my head. So for now I'm just relaxing." I shook my head, "You're something Selene." She returned quickly, "I know." We both laughed.

Finals Week
Elio POV

"Hey Lil, you happen to know what this means?" I said pointing to something in my textbook I wasn't familiar with. I have my Pokemon Battle Theory Final exam in about an hour, and my wonderful girlfriend decided to help me study! She looked at it, "Hm... I think that's a type of strategy that involves... And I'm just guessing by the name... Having your first pokemon in the gym battle seem like a pushover so the next one catches the Challenger off guard." The realization hit me like a truck, "Oh! You're right! Thank you so much!" She gave me a kiss on the cheek, "Anytime, I love you Elio." I closed the book, "I love you too Lillie, mind if I just... Relax here with you for a bit?" She nodded, "Go ahead... Hey, when you're done... Would you mind helping me study for my Johtonian History Exam?" I closed my eyes and said, "For sure. Same place." She responded, "If that's good with you Elio. Thank you!" I rested with her for a while, my head on her shoulder, her breath and heartbeat making steady noise that made me relaxed. I truly am at my happiest. Eventually though I had to go, I stood up, "Alright, I'm gonna do this, thanks for your help Lil, I love you." She nodded, "I love you too, good luck."

This is tough. Never really did think about different situations to apply these different strategies in... So much of this really comes down to reading a Challenger huh? I know what that means at least... Alright I've been here for an hour and a half, time's almost up so I think I better turn in what I got. I at least finished the whole thing. I stood up and handed in my final exam. I then walked outside the classroom and then to the outdoors outside, where I bumped in to Dawn, "Oh, hey Dawn!" She looked around, probably barely hearing me though her headphones, "Oh, hey Elio! Just finish a final?" I nodded, "Yep, you too?" She shook her head, "Going to one. Should be interesting, I studied for 3 hours last night..." I smiled, "Well good luck." She nodded, "Thanks." Seems everyone's busy now. Speaking of which, I had better get back to Lillie...

Lyra POV

I raised my hand during the middle of the final, I don't quite get this one so I might as well ask professor Leaf. Professor Leaf walked over, "Hey Lyra, what's up?" I pointed to the problem and Professor Leaf walked me through it, she's really good at her job. She finished doing that and then paused, and turned around, "Hey, if you wouldn't mind a quick word with me when you're done..." I nodded and immediately my brain went in to overdrive, was I cheating or something? Have I failed miserably on such a simple problem? What does she want? I realized that I don't actually have time for this and need to finish the exam. I hurried to finish the last portion and gave my paper one last double check before turning it in. Here's hoping that was good.

I walked outside and Professor Leaf was sitting on a bench cuddling with her Eevee, who was very obviously having fun. She noticed me and looked up, "Oh! Lyra, there you are... Sorry. I realize now I was kinda ambiguous about what I wanted to meet you about. You're not in trouble." I breathed a sigh of relief, "Oh good." Professor Leaf raised an eyebrow, "Why, Did you cheat or something?" I became flustered quickly and started waving my arms while stammering to make a defense, Professor Leaf laughed, "It's a joke. I'm pretty sure you're the only one who didn't cheat this semester anyway..." I calmed down, "Oh." She laughed, "Anyway, I know this might be... Out of place for me... I guess... But I used to be quite the trainer a few years ago." I tilted my head, "Really?" She nodded, "Yeah. I battled for Cerulean" I reeled, "R-really!? You guys made the Final Four a couple years didn't you?" She nodded, "Yeah. Twice. Well I only went once, the second time poor Eevee here broke his leg." She ruffled the top of Eevees head with her hand. I frowned, "Oh... That's terrible!" Professor Leaf shook her head, "It made me realize that I might be pushing him too hard. So really I think it was more my fault, he's at his best when he works at his own pace!" I smiled, "That's a nice outlook." Leaf nodded, then snapped to reality, "Oh! Sorry! I meant to say that uh... I was hoping you'd let me tell you a few tips and tricks... If you wouldn't mind." I looked at her, she then continued, "Don't take it the wrong way, I don't think you need it at all. I just want to help you guys win it all because I hate those kids at Mauville." I relaxed and then nodded, "Professor Leaf... That would be great." She smiled, "Alright Cool! Let's see..."
