Chapter 32- Last Call

Elio POV

Lillie and I were at a fancy restaurant after the Spring Party, I wanted to take her somewhere really nice after having to leave her for so long. I began to eat my pasta and Lillie also began to eat hers, I looked over the table, "Sorry about that again Lillie. You really look stunning... Well you always do, but you made such a huge effort today, and I wanted to be with you for longer to appreciate what you did." Lillie finished eating for a second and then smiled sweetly, as usual, her smile absolutely melted me, "Aww Elio, don't feel bad, you were just helping a friend. I would've done the same. You know that's another reason I love you, you're always so considerate and caring." I scratched my head, then smiled, "And there's a reason I love you! You're always so understanding!" She leaned over and gave me a kiss on the cheek, "Thanks for tonight Elio." I smiled and nodded, "Hopefully over Summer I can treat you a lot more..."

Brendan POV

May and I were at the Spring Party having the time of our lives, we were dancing to some upbeat music with each other and just having a great time.
We do a lot of the same things we did before we were dating, it's like everything and nothing has changed at the same time. I smiled at May, "This is a lot of fun, thanks for inviting me!" She smiled back, "My pleasure Brendan, I'm glad you came with me." I stopped dancing and focused on talking to her, "So, what are your plans for 2 days when we leave for Galar for the first round?" May looked at me, "What? It's in Galar?" I scratched my head, "Did I forget to mention that? Agh..." May shrugged, "It's alright, I'd like to go with you guys but I'm guessing you'd have to go there by plane... And I can't afford a ticket..." I nodded, "I wish I could help... Mines being payed for... But otherwise I couldn't afford it either." May nodded, "Yeah... I'll be supporting you from home I guess then..." I sighed, "On the bright side, Kukui said Burnet is arranging for a watch party on the battlefield here if you want to go to that." May shrugged, "Probably. You gonna be alright by yourself?" I laughed, "You're joking right?" She looked at me for a bit then slowly shook her head while holding a straight face, I laughed, "Yes of course I'll be fine." May shrugged, "If you say so. Just give me a call if you need something." I sighed, "You really don't trust me do you?" She giggled, "Decline to comment."

The Next Day

Calem POV

"Alright, stand here." Elio directed me, I tilted my head, "Why? It doesn't make any difference does it?" He sighed, "Just do it." I heard Lillie giggle from the bench she was sitting on next to Serena, "He's on a power trip, you're right Calem." Elio looked at his girlfriend in a joking type of frustration, "I didn't ask you!" He then turned to me, "she's right though, sorry, couldn't resist." I chuckled, "Fine, fine, let's get on with it though we only have a day." Elio took out his Primarina and stood at the other end of the practice field, "Alright, first things first, show me how you would attack me." I nodded, then gave a command to Meowstic who shot a bolt that Primarina dodged and then sent a sparkling Aria back that connected. I stared blankly, "What?" Elio clapped, "Alright, here's the problem, and I don't tell many people this stuff, and the last time I told people my battling secrets I got burned so I swear if you-" "Elio. Don't worry I won't." He stopped, "Alright fine. You're thinking too one dimensionally about attack. You want to get your attack from point A to point B and if it works it works. That's not what it's about." I scratched my chin, "I'm a bit confused but go on." Elio sighed, "I'm bad with words, so watch." I prepared myself to defend as Elio called sparkling Aria, I watched as the Primarina went to throw it and I had Meowstic dodge before I realized he had kept it through the throwing motion and released it after Meowstic finished dodging. I once again stared blankly, "Elio? What are you doing?" He pointed, "Notice what I'm doing with my attacking, it isn't so much about hitting the opponent, as it is first trying to burn their options to avoid an attack." Oh? That makes sense actually. I looked to him, "So what you're saying is you waited for me to dodge? What if I just attacked instead?" He pointed, "Well. You can try it if you want." I shrugged, then we went back at it, this time when I attacked at him he used it to clash and it created some smoke on the battlefield, I waited around and then saw a sparkling Aria cut through the smoke and hit Meowstic. I looked over to Elio and put my hands up, "I don't get it." Elio shook his head, "Well, think of it like this. Your attack is really more of a counter attack." He walked up to me, then held a fist as if he was about to punch me, he looked at me, "So, you have three options now that I've started to try to punch you. You can move out of the way, you can try to block, or you can trade punches with me." I looked at Elio's raised fist and nodded slowly, "So you're initiating it... But your move all depends on your opponents initial reaction..." Elio did a little spin then clapped, "YES! THATS IT!" Serena giggled, "Wow, I don't think I've ever seen you two so excited about anything." I chuckled, "Look this is hard ok. I'm trying." Lillie looked over to Elio, "I don't know how you got to that point, but it worked." Elio shrugged, "I don't know either... Alright then Cap, let's put it all together now! Battle like you usually would, but mix in what you just learned." We battled again, and this time I started to hit Elio more than he hit me, my defense and offense were working together in perfect harmony. After a while Elio put his hands on his hips, "And there you have it. Calem v2 in less than a day!" I tilted my head, "Calem v2? Why not 2.0?" Elio pointed, "That's mine, that's copyrighted." I chuckled, "Ok then. What say you I hold up my end of the bargain, and we get to work on Elio 3.0 while we still got daylight?" Elio nodded, "Let's do it."

Brendan POV

I heard Lyra telling some others that she had a lesson with Professor Leaf on Pokemon battles. So naturally I want to ask her what she learned so I can get a little better in preparation for finals. Lyra met me at the practice field and began to gush about it, "It was so cool! I knew Professor Leaf was cool, but she is a serious threat with her Eevee! She'd probably start for us if she could." I scratched my chin, "Really?" Lyra nodded emphatically, "Yes! Her Eevee is so quick, I can see how it injured it's leg moving that fast..." I clasped my hands, "So what did you and Meganium learn?" Lyra smiled, "Oh. So Professor Leaf taught me all about a great opening for battles. The idea is to draw the attention of all of your opponents to let your teammates attack freely, while not getting hit yourself, and it just so happens we can both use leaf storm, which could be used as a distraction." I nodded slowly, "Cool. Could you show me?" Lyra nodded, then had Meganium dart to a position that would be directly on the side of the 3 opposing Pokemon, and called leafstorm before having Meganium dart behind them, Lyra explained, "So the leaf storm will split, and distract them, then while that's finishing up, you can get behind them and either further punish them, or force them to turn their backs on the rest of your team to look at you." That makes a lot of sense... I'll definitely add that to my game, "Thanks a lot Lyra. That really helps." She smiled, "Don't Mention it."
