Captains - Patrick Cripps

Chapter 3

Wednesday January 4th 2017

It was about 8am when Leni woke up to the irritating sound of her alarm, she had set it for 8 so that she would have enough time to get ready and eat before the first ever training and meeting of the Carlton women's team. She got out of bed and starting getting ready beginning with breakfast and then getting dressed, doing , hair and packing a bag.

By the time she was done getting ready it was time to leave, she had just put on some sport shorts, a sports bra and a simple Nike shirt. She poked her head into Jack's room too see him on his phone in bed.

"Oi Jack I'm going out I'll be back in a few hours" Leni told him

He nodded not being fully awake enough to care where he was going or anything. She grabbed her bag and phone and then got in her car and headed to Ikon park where the Carlton Football club was based.

Leni arrived at the club at 9:45am, after parking her car she started walking up to the building, as she was walking she saw 2 other girls walking towards the front of the building. They seemed to notice her too and stopped walking waiting for Leni to get to them once she did the 2 girls introduced themselves

"Hi I'm Jess, this is my twin Sarah" said the one on the left who Leni had now learnt was Jess

"I'm Eleanora but you can call me Leni, Eleanora's too long" Leni told the girls enthusiastically.

"Nice too meet you, are you here for the AFLW team?" asked Sarah

"Yeah I am I'm guessing you two are as well" she said with a laugh

"Yep" they responded in unison.

The 3 of them reached the door and walked towards reception, when they reached reception they were directed too a room down the hall. As they walked in they saw about 8 other girls sitting in there talking and getting too know each other.

The 8 girls looked up as they walked in and told them to grab a couple more chairs and sit in the circle.

The 3 girls did just that and sat down. Everybody began introducing themselves around the circle so far there was Brianna Davey, Tilly Lucas-Rodd, Sarah Last, Laura Attard, Shae Audley, Lauren Arnell, Bella Ayre and Alison Downie. Jess and Sarah then introduced themselves saying that they were twins and stuff like that.

Once the twins had introduced themselves it was Leni's turn, "Hi I'm Eleanora Torelle, but just call me Leni its way easier, I've played Footy since I was about 4 I'm 21 turning 22 later in the year, um I have a job at a pub down the road and I've already completed Uni." Leni told them.

They kept chatting for a little bit as more girls started coming and introducing themselves. At 10 O'clock Damien Keeping their coach walked in with clipboard and a smile.

"Hello Everybody, I am Damien Keeping I'm going to be your coach you can call me Damo. Now I hope You've all gotten to know each other a bit or at least know everyone's names?" he said he got a series of responses saying they knew each others names and stuff.

"Alright so know that I know that you guys know each other and I know all of your names I'm going to start by asking if you have any questions?" he looked around seeing a couple hands up

"You first" he said pointing at a girl Leni had learnt was Kate Darby.

"How many teams are going to be playing this season?" she asked seeing people look like they were wondering the same thing

"There will be 8 teams including us playing this season, so I hope you are all looking forward to it" he said enthusiastically.

He looked back and saw another hand up belonging to Alison Downie he pointed to her indicating for her to ask her question "Whose the captain and who are the vice captains?" she asked hearing a few hums of agreement around the room.

Leni thought she saw him smile even brighter at that question if that was possible "Ah I've been waiting for that question, now these choices have been making taking all skills and things we know about you guys into consideration. So the Vice captains are going to be Brianna Davey and Lauren Arnell" He said with a lot of enthusiasm the said girls both stood up and got a clap and then sat down again.

"Now for the captain, the club and I have taken a lot into consideration and have decided that your captain will be Eleanora Torelle" he shouted happily. Leni sat there for a sec before standing up and getting round of applause. After that Damo took them all out onto the field.

"Okay so we're going to do some drills and get to know each other." Damo shouted, they started doing running, kicking, handballing, tacking and many other drills whilst getting to know each other and having a laugh.

They trained for a couple of hours up until about 2pm, they had all become pretty close in those few hours and were now very good friends with everybody. Leni although very close friends with now her whole team she was closest with the 9 girls she had been talking with earlier; Brianna, Tilly, Sarah L, Laura, Shae, Alison D, Lauren A, Bella and the twins.

All of the girls hung around in the cafeteria for about an hour more all of them getting to know each other even more and become good friends. A lot of girls had gotten nicknames during that training session, Leni got the nickname PB standing for power bank after showing she was powerful and full of energy.

Leni made a lot of jokes and made them all laugh whilst training and singing to the music that was playing while they were training.

Leni got home around 4pm she walked in and saw Jack lying in the lounge room eating without looking up he said "Cassie was over earlier and told me to say that she's going on holiday for like a week and she's gonna call you later or something like that, I wasn't fully listening to her. Where were you all day?"

Leni put her stuff down before responding "I'll make sure I answer her later then and I was just out with some old Uni friends for the day" she said while looking for food in the pantry. Jack simply nodded before heading to his room.

Neither of the cousins did much except eat dinner and chat, the main topic of conversation was how excited Jack was to meet the women's team at training tomorrow, Leni was trying not too laugh or give anything away.

She was looking forward to seeing the look on his face when he saw her there tomorrow and she was excited to see his reaction to seeing her also be captain of the team.

After Tomorrow she would be allowed to tell people she was part of the team and the captain which she was looking forward to seeing as there was a Silvagni-Torelle family dinner on Saturday so she would tell her family then.

A/N This chapter was 1229 words long and that is the longest chapter so far im going to try and make all of them 800 words or more but yeah. im actually really enjoying writing this book even if its getting no reads i hope if someone is reading this that you are enjoying it.
