Captains - Patrick Cripps

Chapter 11

1:10pm Friday January 6th 2017

Leni walked over to where Patrick was standing whilst everyone else walked over to their partners, the midfielders were told to practice marking and quick passes until they get told to do something different.

Pat was standing, watching as Leni walked over, Len couldn't help but feel a bit nervous as she walked over. Their only interactions have been smiles, winks and gazes, they had only talked once and that wasn't for very long plus it had just been to congratulate each other.

As Leni reached Patrick she started to feel nervous, it could be that he was a pretty well known person or maybe because she found him attractive or maybe a different reason she wasn't aware of.

She was sure she'd figure it out soon though. She stood in front of him waiting for him to speak, she found it funny to see him awkwardly standing there scratching the back of his neck. Eventually she just started laughing making him look confused and nervous. Once she calmed down she started talking.

"Hey, do you wanna start practicing or are we going to continue awkwardly standing around" Said Leni with a laugh "Oh um yeah, lets start" Pat said awkwardly.

"Okay, I'll stand back maybe like 30 metres and kick the ball high and you can mark it?" she suggested

"Uh yeah sure" Pat said. Leni walked back 30ish metres and got ready to kick.

She did a fairly decent kick and made it high enough that he would have to try decently hard to mark it. She saw him jump quite majestically actually and mark it surprisingly well, she gave him a little clap to which he gave a small bow making them both laugh.

Jacob Weitering was feeling a bit crook so he was sitting on the sidelines watching everybody else train, but more specifically the 2 captains. Since the day earlier when they had met each other Jacob had been observing the pair, he had a feeling that some time in the future they were going to date and when they did he would be able to say that he called it.

Just based of the smiles and looks they had been giving each other he knew something would happen between them.

To be honest he was excited to see what would happen because despite only having known Leni for about a day he knew that she would be perfect for Pat, but it wasn't like he was going to say that to anyone until other people noticed what he was seeing between the 2.

She was strong and could keep people under control whilst being a fun person and all around just would be good for Patty, plus he had seen the smiles and winks she had given Patty and he'd made her blush a few times, which Jacob had a feeling didn't happen very often.

He decided he was going to watch the pair over time and see if he could tell that they liked each other in the future

Leni had just marked the ball after Pat had done a good kick, they had wanted to make training more fun so as they were marking they pretended they were an animal, that mark Leni pretended to be a frog by croaking and posing like a frog in the air before catching the ball. Patty found the frog one quite funny and started laughing his arse off, whilst Leni was sitting on the ground after her mark.

Marc Murphy who was kicking a footy with Lauren Brazzale one of Leni's friends, looked over when he heard a lot of laughter and was slightly surprised to see Patrick hunched over laughing while Leni was sitting on the ground snorting a laugh occasionally.

He found it kind of cute to see them both laughing with each other and stated wondering if there was something there despite them only having known each other for a day they seemed fairly close.

Pat and Leni had decided to switch to quick passes as he was handballing it to her he mooed like a cow making her get a fright and then start laughing causing her to not get the ball, she looked at him with an 'are you serious look' making him try not to laugh but soon she got him back by picking the ball up when he wasn't looking and handballing it straight into his crotch, making him groan in pain and look at her in annoyance whilst she was pretending she didn't do anything.

They both then started doing very quick handballs trying to make the other drop it, it wasn't officially a challenge but they had made it one and neither of them wanted to lose, they weren't too far away from each other but they were moving around as they passed.

They had been going for about 5 minutes when Bolton blew a whistle calling everyone to the middle, but Patty and Leni didn't want to lose so they were still going whilst everyone was going in to the middle.

"Oi you 2 get over here" Shouted Bolton to Pat and Len who were still going neither of them slowing down, Patty did a high handball that Leni almost didn't catch but as she jumped she just got her hands around it before passing it off low making it hard for Pat to get it because of his height. "What are you two doing, just drop it and come over and listen" Said Damo slightly confusedly

"Nope, can't do that sorry, I need to beat him" Said Leni with out looking away, they both had most people's attention and the trio were making bets with Zac Fisher, Bella and Darcy on who would win, Darcy had also become one of Leni's closest friends over the few days.

"Okay then" Said Damo being intrigued and wanting to see who would win. Leni had the ball and did a low pass to his left which he only just managed to grab, Pat then passed it high and nearly over her head but she jumped just in time and got it.

She decided to do a normal one which surprised him but he still got it, Pat then did a normal one but made it fast she got it fairly easily though but then she did one high that Pat didn't see coming and it just grazed his finger tips before it touched the grass, meaning Leni had just one.

Jack, Darcy and Bella who had bet that Leni would win started celebrating seeing as they had just won $50 dollars each from Charlie, Caleb and Fish who bet Crippa would win. Leni walked to Crippa and gave him a pat on the back "Must suck to suck" She told him with a laugh earning a glare from him and laughs from everyone else.

For the rest of the training they just did basic drills until they had about an hour and a half left. The coaches decided it would be fun for them to play a game against each other so the girls went to their locker room to get ready and motivated, Leni did not want to lose because then Pat, Jack, Caleb and Charlie would gloat about it to her so she was ready to win as was the rest of the team.

Especially Darcy and Bella who were now Leni's best friends along with Cassie who was coming home on Sunday. They walked out to the oval after getting ready and formed a circle with Damo.

A/N 1269 words. next chapter will be the game so yay i like writing this book so thank you to those people reading it. i'm overloaded with assignments at the moment so i don't know how often i'll be able to update but i'll try my best.
