22. Snakes

"Again? You mean, the Chamber of Secrets has been opened before?" Hermione asked as we all sat in the girl's bathroom. I was leaning on against the wall reading the hobbit as Hermione was making a Polyjuice Potion and the boys were sitting around her.

"Of course! Don't you see? Pansy's father must've opened it when he was at school here, and now he's told her how to do it." Ron said

"Maybe. We'll have to wait for the
Polyjuice Potion to know for sure." Hermione sighed

"I still don't think you guys should be doing this. It's like an invasion of privacy or something." I spoke looking up from my book

"Enlighten me. Why are we brewing this potion in broad daylight, in the middle of a girls' lavatory? Don't you think we'll get caught?" Ron asked ignoring my statement as I sighed

"Never. No one over comes in here." Hermione explained

"Why?" Ron asked confused

"Moaning Myrtle." I answered simply

"Who's Moaning Myrtle?" Ron questioned and I loud screech rang through the air

"You just had to ask." I whispered as Myrtle's ghost flew around the room

"I'm Moaning Myrtle. I wouldn't expect you to know me. Who would ever talk about fat, ugly, miserable, moping, moaning Myrtle?" She sobbed loudly before diving head first into the toilet

"She's a little sensitive." Hermione explained noticing the boys shocked and confused faces

"I don't understand why I have to be here." I sighed as multiple students from all four houses stood in the Great Hall for Lockhart's Dueling club.

"Because we need to know how to protect ourselves, love." Michael whispered in my ear as he wrapped his arm around my waist

"I can protect myself just fine." I mumbled and he smiled

"I have no doubts about that, but it's still important we be here." He smiled

"Gather round! Gather round! Can everyone see me? Can you all hear me? Excellent. In light of the dark events of recent weeks, Professor Dumbledore has granted me permission to start this little Dueling Club, to train you all up in case you ever need to defend yourselves as I myself have done on countless occasions-for full details, see my published works." Lockhart explained

"You know the more he brings up his accomplishments, the more he sounds like a lier?" I mumbled and Michael nodded

"He's got to at least know something, or Dumbledore wouldn't have hired him, don't you think?" He asked quietly and I shrugged

"Let me introduce my assistant Professor Snape. He has sportingly agreed to help me with a short demonstration. Now I don't want any of you youngsters to worry. You'll still have your Potions Master when I'm through with him, never fear!" Lockhart joked

"Oh goodie." Micheal laughed pulling me closer to him so he could rest his head on my shoulder

We all watched as Lockhart and Snape faced each other bowing before they turned away and walked ten paces in opposite directions. Then they spun to face each other with their wands raised

"As you can see, we are holding our wands in the accepted combative position. On the count of three, we will cast our first spells. Neither of us will be aiming to kill, of course." Lockhart explained before nodding to Snape
