Erica sat the drinks on the coffee table and grabbed her phone after rolling her eyes at Maya. Maya mouthed she was sorry before taking a seat. Looking through her texts, Erica saw numerous ones from Jonathan. She felt everyone's eyes on her.

"Why is he texting you?" Deacan asked again with frustration.

"I don't know. He wants to talk,” Erica replied as she put the phone back in her purse.

“That’s it? That doesn’t sound thirsty.” Deacan had moved into the living room and was standing in her face. He’d folded his arms across his chest, eyes narrowed. Disbelief was pouring off of him and she wasn’t in the mood for it. When he opened his mouth again, there was a knock at the door. Sheri jumped slightly at the disturbance, so Clark pulled her into him and rubbed her back.

Maya jumped up, pulling down the hem of her sexy nurse costume. “I’ll get it,” she yelled and hurried to the door. “Hey, glad you made it.”

Everyone focused on the new guest in green scrubs with a stethoscope around his neck. Some of his locs were pulled back into a low ponytail and his full lips wore a big smile. He seemed to engulf Maya as she stood next to him, her head right at his chest. She was smiling just as big as he was when she made introductions.

“Everyone, this is Colin Phillips. Colin, meet the Wild Bunch!”

“Hey, glad to meet you all,” he said and then turned to whisper to Maya, though he wasn’t very good at it, “uh...did someone die? This house has the tension of a funeral.” Clark chuckled and hopped up, clapping Colin on the shoulder.

“Don’t mind us. Let’s get the drinks flowing and the food going!” Clark walked past Deacan and gave him a look. Deacan nodded his understanding and grabbed two large bowls filled with candy off the table. He walked outside and closed the door. Maya excused herself from Colin and pulled Erica down the hallway to the bathroom.

Maya put her hands in her hair and lightly scratched her scalp. This was her tell that she was anxious. “Girl, what’s up with you and Deacan? Also, I’m sorry for whatever I did to make it worse.” Erica told Maya about the argument before coming there and that she’d thought everything was fine until the Jonathan texts. Maya frowned, “One day I’ll learn not to lead in with my mouth.”

Erica chuckled and hugged her friend, “It’s okay, you didn’t know. Besides, that’s part of your charm...sometimes.” Before Maya could open the door, Erica stopped her and looked her up and down. “Cute nurse costume and you’re matching a very handsome looking doctor out there.” Maya was beaming by the time Erica finished her sentence.

“He is one fine brotha! Simply,” she raised her hand to her mouth, kissing the fingertips, signifying perfection. “What do you think of him?”

“Maya, I haven’t talked to the guy yet. You pulled me in here, remember?” Erica laughed as she shook her head at her friend.

“No need to be a smartass! You’ll like him. So what do you think of Sheri?”

Erica absently nodded her head as she thought about Sheri. “Uh...she’s pretty. Seems to really be into Clark. He’s loving those thick thighs in that cheerleading skirt. Man keeps rubbing on her. I haven’t really talked to her either though. She seems real nervous or anxious.” Maya hummed her reply and then opened the door.

“Well, let’s go out here and loosen things up!”

Erica woke up in her bed, alone. That’s not how she’d thought things would go when she started her day yesterday. The party was great, for the most part. Good food, good drinks, and good conversation. Sheri became more comfortable and talked a bit more. She talked about working in the evidence room for the Clayton Police Department. Her attention never really left Clark though. She seemed to be aware of where he was at all times.
