WHAT KENDALL AND Ella realized about their new relationships were that they were different.

Very different.

The pair were together for almost 2 years and were always by each other's side. And now, they weren't.

It had been a little over a month since they both started seeing new people and it still had some getting used to, especially for James, Logan, and Carlos whose lives had completely shifted in the span of a couple of weeks.

They felt Ella slowly pushing them away, going back to her ways when they were in middle school and she didn't feel "worthy" of their friendship, projecting her parents' treatment of her towards the boys.

Even with Kendall, they tried not to mention Ella in case he'd tense up, and they still resented the fact that he had been stupid enough to harbor feelings for another girl without even telling the one he was with.

It was just so...messy.

The boys missed how things were so badly, but they knew they just had to give the ex-couple some time to get over their pain. They just didn't know when enough was enough before needing to intervene.

Ever since Kendall and Ella's fight after their meeting, they haven't really spoken to each other that much. And when they were in the same room, the air was tense and stifling. Ella had started to avoid her friends solely because of the awkwardness that ensued when her and Kendall saw each other.

They seemed notably happy in their new relationships and as time went on, it seemed to mend the heartbreak they had caused for each other.

Ella was with Dak. Kendall was with Lucy.

If Kendall made a mistake, he sure didn't want to admit it. Yes, he had pretty strong feelings for Lucy, but the spark and chemistry he thought they shared slowly started to diminish once their relationship became official.

He took her out to a party on their first date. As he scrambled to leave the crib to pick Lucy up, he patted on his jeans, making sure he had everything with him: phone, wallet, keys...

When everything checked out and he was about to leave, he caught a glimpse of a certain item on his right index finger. He froze for a second, staring at the black ring that had taken up his finger for almost 2 years. It was his and Ella's first Christmas together as a couple and she bought him the piece of jewelry from a random flea market.

Nothing about it was that serious. It wasn't like it was a wedding ring, however, it still felt wrong to have it on while he was about to go on a date with another girl. With that, he took it off, placing it on the drawer in his room before going to meet up with Lucy.

They had fun on their date. Enough fun to go out on a second, then third, then fourth and before he knew it, he was calling Lucy his girlfriend.

He was attracted to the way she challenged him, how mysterious she was, and how hard it was for anyone to figure her out. In fact, he learned something new about her everyday.
