Arizona's POV:

So, it turns out, Renee cracked first in terms of being the one to reach out between us. I must admit though, I was a very close second. I already had my text typed and had been scrutinizing it for the last 4 hours after our lunch meeting that afternoon. I was just on the verge of sending my text when Renee's text appeared on my phone.

"Whew," I thought! And then my stomach butterflies kicked in again as I was now anxious and excited to read what Renee had just typed...

"Arizona, I enjoyed talking with you this afternoon and would love to see you or talk to you again soon. By chance, do you have any free time this weekend? If so, I'd really like to see you again. No worries if you are busy, just thought I'd ask if you were free."

I laughed at Renee's similar social awkwardness I have too! She was being so polite, but trying not to sound too forward. Her and I have that in common, I mused as I responded back to Renee's text.

"Do you have any plans this Saturday? I'm free and thought we could get together that day for lunch or dinner?"

I decided to be bold for once in a long time and just ask Renee out, so not like me. While I wasn't sure if Renee had any interest in me as other than a friend, I already knew at that point I wanted to spend time with her in whatever capacity I could. She was so easy to talk with and I had already realized I was drawn to her for some reason.

"I have Saturday completely off this week," she responded back in under 60 seconds. "What did you have in mind?"

"I'm free the entire day as well, not sure what to do... Is there something you want to do?" I asked Renee, as I played this new relationship text dancing game... (I still wasn't sure where this might go...)

"In that case... The question isn't, "What are we going to do?" the question is, "What aren't we going to do?" Renee replied back... with a bunch of laughing emojis. "I fully stole that quote from a movie, but it seems apropos."

Renee then asked, "Any chance you're up for hanging out late morning starting with brunch and then see where the day takes us?"

"I'm down with whatever you have in mind, Renee. Should we meet up at my place or yours?"

"How about I drive to your place and we meet around 10 am?" Renee's text popped up instantly.

"Sounds great to me I responded," with a bunch of smiley faced emojis.

Part of me panicked a bit at how open I had just made myself, but a huge part of me was excited to get to know Renee better. Whatever happened from this point, I was just happy to have a friend that understood me better than most. I sent Renee my address.

We ended up spending the rest of the night texting and at one point, Renee just called me. It was so much easier than texting back and forth we both realized. We ended up spending the next 4 hours on the phone talking.

Pretty sure Renee was attracted to me, but I never prodded her about her sentiments regarding me. She mutually didn't ask anything about my intentions. Instead, we just spent time that night laughing and getting to know one another.

That Saturday with her was an incredible day and it stirred up more butterflies than I knew I had in my stomach and heart. At least I understood at that point, I never wanted those butterflies to ever go away... I was hoping Renee felt the same way as well.
