Callie's POV:
After dinner that Sunday night, we did Sophia's usual bedtime routine and tucked her in. Both of us were exhausted after the weekend and the drive home, so we decided to get into bed just after our daughter did the same, around 7pm.
As I scooted under the covers, Arizona transferred her head and body weight onto my chest and sighed. I wrapped my arms around her, but then started caressing her face and hair.
"Do you want to talk about anything, Arizona?" I was still trying to soothe her because of how I discovered her in the kitchen a few hours ago.
"Thanks Callie, but I'm, okay. You guys just walked into the kitchen at the moment I finished reading Renee's letter, but I have made peace with it since. I did text Renee to let her know she's welcome to call or see Sophia whenever she has time."
"Did you hear back from her?" My concern for Renee must have showed immediately on my olive, complected face in that moment by the way Arizona looked back at me and then responded.
"No, but I didn't expect to hear back, but thought it was important to let her know, nonetheless."
"I agree, Arizona, and want Renee to know that she's still welcome to be apart of our daughter's life. Hopefully, one of these days she'll call or come visit. Time will only tell though."
"Callie, are we driving together tomorrow morning to work? It sounds like we have similar schedules and I think it would be nice to be with you when we walk in. I've gotten to the point, where I don't care what people say behind our backs and just want us to be us."
"I'm fine with that, Arizona. Any thoughts about how we are going to tell people? I personally think we shouldn't flaunt it, but I also don't want to hide it, know what I mean?"
"I was thinking the same thing Callie, I just want us, to be us, and say, 'screw 'em,' if they think otherwise."
"I agree, we are going into this unified and will deal with things as they come our way!"
"Well spoken, Callie."
We ended up spending the next 90 minutes watching TV in bed that night, before we fell asleep.
Our alarms summed us up at 6 am the next morning, plenty of time to get our daughter and ourselves ready and out the door. We got Soph dropped off at school, drove to the hospital, parked our car in the physician's lot and headed in for our day.
Every so often, the Chief of Surgery decides to have a rousing pep talk for the surgical staff, but it's always first thing on a Monday morning... This just happened to be one of those mornings, sigh.
Arizona and myself walked into the pavilion between the two levels of surgical floors and stood up against the surgical desk, while Teddy, Meredith, and Bailey soon joined us. We probably seemed liked a a bit of a sorority with all of us laughing and talking before we started.
"How was your weekend, ladies?" Meredith had her usual inquisitive and inquiring look plastered across her face.
Arizona spoke first, "It was good, I think we both needed the downtime."
Teddy then piped up instantly, "And by downtime, she means they spent the entire time laying down!"
I elbowed Teddy and just started laughing, as did the other ladies standing with us.
Meredith gained her composure first, "How are you going to go public with your relationship? When do you plan on telling folks, so I no longer need to keep your secret?"
"Arizona and I are just going to tell people as they ask, but decided we don't want to make a big deal about us dating again. We also are sick of hiding everything, but figured this will work itself out in time."
