One Last Summer Fling

Arizona's POV:

The next few days were pretty typical for our family. Soph was finishing her week with a couple extra-curricular classes/activities and then had her last softball game that coming Sunday afternoon, the day after our big BBQ party.

Callie stayed busy with Sophia the days we were off that week because of my patient assault at the hospital, but when she wasn't, Callie would snuggle with me on the couch or in bed... just depended where I was parked at that moment in time. When Sophia was around, she'd sometimes cuddle with us too, or look annoyed when she'd see us canoodling.

The three of us were watching lots of TV during that week and while it was great to have more family time, I was starting to go stir crazy from all the bed rest and lack of activity.

With our downtime though, I started pulling ideas together for our daughter's new bedroom design. She had already told us that she wanted a room that had clouds and then stars, when she turned off the lights. Sophia also requested her walls should be blues, greens and earth tones. Basically, her "concept," was to bring the outdoors, indoors.

I guess her formative years growing up in the Pacific Northwest had left an indelible impression on our daughter after all. Callie and I felt the same way about our shared experiences as a couple in Seattle, as well. Not only was it our home, but, the scenery was part of the backdrop to our relationship from the very start.

Sophia really enjoyed the hike during our mountain vacation and even inquired if she could have a waterfall in her room. I had to chuckle at that, but when our daughter wants something, she goes all out. (Like Moms though, like daughter!) However, we did let her know the indoor waterfall, was not going to happen.

I found the perfect bedroom furniture for her, which included a desk for Soph to use when she did her homework. The furniture had more of a bedroom feel for her as a young-adult, and fit her design concept.

She fell in love with the log bed she slept in during the trip to Mt. Rainer, so I managed to find a queen sized bed with contrasting light and dark wood colors, that also resembled a more petite version of the massive bed she slept in at the rental house.

Somehow over the Summer, Sophia had managed to grow up and mature quite a bit for her age. We knew the days of sitting at the kitchen table, doing homework with us, were eventually going to come to a close, but it did catch us a bit off guard how quickly it had happened in the last two  and a half months alone.

We also wanted her to become more independent as she grew up and wanted her to start managing her school assignments and academic schedule, so that it would help her sense of responsibility and maturity in the process. The new room and desk, we thought would help in her pursuit of growing up.

I had already reached out to an interior designer that painted amazing wall murals and had arranged for her to come over next week, on a day I had off. My Mom had also offered to be in our house the other days the artist needed to be inside, in order to complete Sophia's new bedroom painting.

In the meantime, we had already arranged an organization that takes donations, to remove and haul away the old guest room furniture and mattress that Friday, Sophia was getting all new things, and couldn't be more excited. We'd be scrambling, but we're hoping to have the room done at the end of next week for the start of her school year.

When Friday came that week, Callie and I had already decided to take it off a few weeks ago, so we could be ready for the party the following day. I was officially done with my three days of bed rest by that point, but still was going to take it easy that weekend and avoid anything too strenuous.

My workout schedule had already been thwarted that week, so I figured what's a few more days at this juncture. I did, however, go on a short walk to the park with Callie and Sophia on Friday, late afternoon though. It felt good to feel, 'normal,' yet again, even if it was only a half mile walk, round trip.
