Arizona's POV:
'What a long week this has been...' I was half-sighing and half-talking to myself, as I was in my office gathering up my things after finishing my consults and post-op's that late afternoon.
Callie and the girls were already home since my wife had an early workday. I was purposely dragging my feet that afternoon though, because for once, I wasn't in a huge hurry to get home. Thanks to my big mouth, Callie and I had been at odds with one another all week.
While we weren't fighting, Callie was acting jilted, which was far worse. She was correct when she said earlier in the week that it would be easier for her to get over being mad. Being hurt was a completely different ball of wax, altogether.
I had been doing everything I could think of to fix the situation, but to no avail. Callie was still in a funk and not saying a whole lot to me as a result. It almost felt like we were roommates that just shared a bedroom and bathroom that week.
I didn't blame Callie for how she felt and I wasn't mad at her. I just felt deflated and forlorn without Callie, being, my Callie. I was also feeling pretty low about myself, since I had ultimately been the cause for the change of events that had created our current discord. As such, I was in no huge hurry to face the music again tonight and or the coming weekend, so I took longer to lock-up my office than usual.
I got home that day around 3:30 pm and discovered that Sophia, Callie and Maddy were in the media room. Sophia was busy playing video games and Maddy was having tummy time on the floor with Callie.
"Mama! Now all of us are home!"
Soph charged at me and threw her arms around me for a shared hug. Part of my heart melted when she said, "Now all of us are home." It was adorable how excited she was for all of her family to all be under the same roof. Thank goodness she hadn't noticed her Moms' relationship issues that week and she was still her happy, go-lucky self.
"Hey Bug, I've missed you! How was your day with Grandpa and Grandma? Did you enjoy your afternoon with your Mom and Sister?"
"Grandma and Grandpa played games, Grandma made lasagna for lunch and Grandpa took us to the park. Mom, sis and I have just been hanging out. It was good."
I was still holding Sophia with just my right arm around her shoulder as I looked at Callie and Maddy. My youngest was trying to make a noise and was so close as she was also trying to roll over.
Madelyn had a lot of milestones that we knew were coming up, and fast. We already figured she'd probably smile, laugh and roll-over all on the same day, at the current rate Maddy had been progressing.
Callie was sitting next to Maddy's blanket, holding brightly colored toys and trying to promote Maddy to react to one or to roll further than she previously had. Callie had long since changed and was wearing black stretch pants and a slightly over-sized sweatshirt that was well broken in. It was one I had given her during our first year of dating that hung a little off of her shoulders.
She would tell you that she looked terrible in her older, comfortable clothes, with her jet-black hair messily pulled back, but I thought she looked absolutely gorgeous sitting there. I wanted to tell her and go passionately kiss her, but I was still on the outs with her. More importantly, we hadn't talked much about what had happened and still needed to, before I made any advances. However, I had been waiting for Callie to make the first move since she said she needed time.
"Callie? Do you have any plans for dinner just yet? I'm only asking because I was thinking about going on a run or at least walk for 30 minutes, but only if I have time? It's okay if I need to get dinner figured out or started."
