Kabanata 15

Holding my greatest dreams with my trembling hands... right in front of me... is the greatest feeling I've ever felt. All of the sweats I have given, all the tears I have shed, the unsaid thoughts and feelings I concealed so no one can know, the hard work and the perseverance I exerted and the art of waiting I mastered... they are all worth it.

I was once a rookie. No one believed in me except my family... No one trust in me except my family... I bear all the knives of hurtful words alone since I started playing volleyball and then my friends came, Charity Evangeline came, lifting me up to the top. Help me to find the courage I was once lost because of the lack of support from the volleyball community.

I started from the bottom. The least favorite, the not so good player, the walang dating ang palo, the hindi naman magaling, matangkad lang... I experience all of that. I climbed from the bottom, face struggles while climbing and now, I am almost on top, holding the most valuable trophy of life- my ultimate dreams.

It is really a "She who climbs the ladder must begin at the bottom" experience for me.

Malapad ang ngiti ko habang nakikinig kay Sir Ramon explaining what it is like to be in the National Team Pool of Philippine Volleyball. He's explaining everything including what will happen to the training once it starts. He explained that our training, especially the student athletes like me and Pastel, supposed to be one year, utmost. Pero dahil may intergames kami next month, it was lessened to six months at isasabay kami sa team A, which is Ally's team.

Sa training kasi ay mahahati kami sa dalawang team. I and Pastel would be in Team B. Kasama namin sina Faith at iyong iba ring nakasama namin sa tryout.

"Para kang tanga, riyan, Ocampo," bulong sa akin ni Pastel na katabi ko lamang. Bahagya niya pa akong siniko.

"Maganda mood ko."

Inilingan niya ako at muling ibinigay ang kaniyang atensyon sa nagsasalita. Ako rin naman ay ganoon ang ginwa at hindi inaalis ang matagumpay na ngiti sa labi.

"For five months, the training will be held at Philippine Sports Arena. Hindi pa tayo pwedeng lumayo because we have student athletes here. And the remaining one month, it will be in Ilocos." Paliwanag ulit ni Sir Ramon. Isa-isa kaming tumango at sumang-ayon sa kaniyang sinabi.

I'm excited and nervous at the same time.

"The press conference will be next week. Be sure to attend because that's when we'll introduce you to the public formally." Everyone nodded again. "For our student athletes, this is absolutely a challenge for you. The training is different from the trainings you had at your schools. Dito, patibayan ng loob. Be prepared and fly high. Once again, welcome to the team!"

Isang masigabong palakpakan ang namayani sa amin. The senior member of the team congratulated us. Ally and Aireen went near me and gave me a hug. Even Coach Arthur congratulated Pastel and I.

"I never doubt the two of you will make it here. Sa tryout pa lamang, magaling na," papuri niya sa aming dalawa.

"Ang pamunuan lang naman talaga ang hindi naniniwala Coach. Kahit ako, hindi pa man inilalabas ang final list, sigurado na akong pasok itong si Ocampo."
